Love, and what it means to you.
Hey guys, i'm curios as to what love means to all of you at totse. To me it means a strong addiction and undying affection for another.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
I can't properly define what love is to you, however I can try and describe how I behave when in love.
I think about the person a lot, want to be with him all the time, his happiness becomes very important to me, and sometimes even more important than my own.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
Love is joy in service.
I cannot change all - or even anything - that is an atrocious horror in a loved one's life. All I can do is be an example that that's not the only way things can be.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
there are too many posts like this, so i'll be the one to add the obligatory "what is love? baby don't hurt me..."
love is an abstract emotion, if you want actual thought-out responses, try headshrinkers rather than here.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
I've just broke up with someone very very dear to me who I loved... I think the loss has made me realise what love is... This is not an exhaustive list, but it's certainly how I felt about her... This type of love is different from the love of your family, but will obviously share some characteristics:
Love is the desire to spend time with someone, life's most finite resource. You could go to a restaurant, or sit and just enjoy their company, and still feel like you have a good time.
Love is the desire to make someone happy, no matter what it takes.
Love is an undying dedication to that person.
Love is a sacrifice, but worth it if they love you too; You care so strongly that if anyone wronged them, they've wronged you too. You'd die for that person, just so they could live.
Love is selflessness in its truest form; no reward is required from the person you love, except the hope that you've made them smile.
Love is being there for that person, in the highs and the lows.
Love is making someone feel wanted, someone feel special, and being proud that they are yours and yours only.
Love is vulnerability; You leave yourself open to so much damage on the trust they won't betray you. And that is why true heartbreak is so devastating.
I could go into a lot more, but... I can't think of any off the top of my head right now. I personally think it's rare to find someone you feel truely that strongly about; I guess only time will tell for me.
I hope this helps; this is what true love is, to me. Unless you've experienced it, you'll shit bricks at trying to comprehend the feeling of love, and loss.
Best regards,
Zaknafein.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
Love is fuckin simple.
Everyone wants to make shit out like its so fuckin complicated.
You are compatible, or you are not compatible.
Love is when you are willing to do more for that person then someone in a similar position, such as a friend.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
I have thought about this in great detail, and I realized love is not something I want to be any part of. It is just so irrational, it makes you do what you wouldn't normally do, it basically is a brainwashing mechanism, which isn't so bad if you want to be brainwashed, but why would you want that. Love is utilized by the weak, those that can't live without it, and the more you experience it the more it becomes unbearable to live without it. Love is a drug. I hate drugs but I understand the need. If you think about it it's rather unethical to utilized such a tool, would you want to be manipulated into doing stuff you don't really want to. Ethics means everything to me. I see it as my ethical responsibility to ensure nobody falls under my spell, which is very hard when your as good at brainwashing people as I am, and to make sure I don't brainwash anyone with this response, I give you the right to stand against me on any issue I bring before you.
Stay Positive!

Eternal longing... Unconditional sacrifice... Selflessness... Unconditional caring...
Or just massive pain and misery... You never really know how much you love someone untill you lost them.. You take them for granted, and one day BANG they are gone... Thats what love's all about. PAIN.

I used to think like that, but then i fell very much in love with my girlfriend and 6 months later (today) i can understand what people mean when they write wanky prose, like this thread.
It's a totally unique experience until you've felt it.
To me its like, i think about her every day and i would give absolutely anything to make her happy. Even if she makes me angry, I live for that woman
also, she looks good naked. That helps :D

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
Love is any of a number of emotions and experiences related to a sense of strong affection. The word love can refer to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes, ranging from generic pleasure ("I loved that meal") to intense interpersonal attraction ("I love my girlfriend"). This diversity of meanings, combined with the complexity of the feelings involved, makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, even compared to other emotional states.
As an abstract concept, love usually refers to a deep, ineffable feeling of tenderly caring for another person. Even this limited conception of love, however, encompasses a wealth of different feelings, from the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love to the nonsexual emotional closeness of familial and Platonic love to the profound oneness or devotion of religious love. Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.

Love is like musik, its like a harmonic connection between two living beings, its like something exists between you and her which is addictive, that you want to return to that place all the time in your head, it feels like it can't be separated

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
I feel that I am very old fashioned about love. I hate all this bull shit with 15 year olds saying they love each other after a week etc. This commercial love is ruining the true sense of the word. When previous boyfriends said ‘I love you’ too early on in the relationship, or if I felt they were just saying it for sex etc, I would have to dump them. I had never told anyone I loved them till I met my current boyfriend. Once you are in love, there is no doubting it.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
I will copy and paste, what I believe it to be. Although, I have only experienced it in fleeting moments:
At the level of love, you now place your head and all your other talents and abilities in service to your heart (not your emotions, but your greater sense of right and wrong your conscience). I see this as the level of awakening to your true purpose. Your motives at this level are pure and uncorrupted by the desires of the ego. This is the level of lifetime service to humanity. Think Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Dr. Albert Schweitzer. At this level you also begin to be guided by a force greater than yourself. Its a feeling of letting go. Your intuition becomes extremely strong. Hawkins claims this level is reached only by 1 in 250 people during their entire lifetimes. Think compassion.
It's a state, rather than an emotion. It can be measured by the number of endorphins in the brain.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
Now that the love is gone !
What are we supposed to do
After all that we've been through
When everything that felt so right is wrong
Now that the love is gone ?
love is gone
What are we supposed to do
After all that we've been through
When everything that felt so right is wrong
Now that the love is gone ?
There is nothing left to prove
No use to deny this simple truth
Can't find the reason to keep holding on
Now that the love is gone, love is gone
Now that the love is gone, what felt so right's so wrong
Now that the love is gone
I feel so hurt inside, feel so hurt inside, got to find the reason
What are we supposed to do
After all that we've been through
When everything that felt so right is wrong
Now that the love is gone ?
There is nothing left to prove
No use to deny this simple truth
Can't find the reason to keep holding on
Now that the love is gone, love is gone
Got to find a reason, got to find a reason,
Got to find a reason to hold !
Love, there's nothing left for us to say, yeah !
Love, why can't we turn and walk away ?
What are we supposed to do
After all that we've been through
When everything that felt so right is wrong
Now that the love is gone ?
There is nothing left to prove
No use to deny this simple truth
Can't find the reason to keep holding on
Now that the love is gone, love is gone

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
There's not much to say that hasn't already been said.
To me, it feels like in day to day life, you have to put on this mask. You have to be normal, do the right things, be a certain way...and I'm not being emo or anything, but we all have expectations that we have to live up to. And loving someone is when you feel like you can be who you really are with them, no bullshit, no pretending. Just honesty, and you can trust them to accept you for what you really are. And when you can feel the same way about them; you're not going to get sick of them when they're depressed and not entertaining, when you're not going to judge them for their flaws and inadequacies.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
A chemical trick to ensure the survival of the species
EDIT, that may sound cynical, but loves are like that. You heart starts to feel like an overcrowded lifeboat. You throw your pride out to keep it afloat, and your self-respect and independence. After a while, you started throwing people out - your friends and everyone you used to know. And it's still not enough. The lifeboat is still sinking, and you know it's going to take down with it. I've seen that happen to a lot of people. That's why I'm sick of love.

Re: Love, and what it means to you.
That I can spend larger amounts of time with a certain person, and contrary to the norm... actually continue to enjoy the time spend with them past a certain point, and continue to be interested in their person... and not be bored or put out by the loss of freedom or the increased level of care I'd have to pay to another person besides myself.
I guess that description sounds pretty moderate or boring, but I find it a bit more likely than the whole passionate romance thing. If I can just find someone who I don't get incredibly sick of past a certain point, and I find attractive and interesting, and am able to sort of keep in my 'heart, then that is all pretty amazing in itself... As I'm pretty flaky and inconsistent.
Usually if I'm 'interested' in someone in that way, it's not very long before I lose interest and just feel like escaping whatever sort of relationship has been created. So I could even just say: 'A desire not to flee.' Would be substantial enough for me to consider it being 'love', as I really hate my independence being compromised by a relationship, so imagining that somehow not being a problem seems good enough. Though I can't really say for sure, as I've never been there.
