Avoiding shampoo while having dandruff
Okay... for the last seven years I've been using Head & Shoulders to keep my dandruff at bay all the while damaging my hair. Now I've found out all about hard-water, soap and the reasons behind shampoo and conditioner being used and want to stop using shampoo. But I want to keep my scalp from being flaky without damaging my hair with shampoo. How can I get the best of both worlds? Will it be fine if I just soap my hair and use H&S conditioner?

Re: Avoiding shampoo while having dandruff
I've found shampooing makes my hair flaky. Especially H&S. It's like, it's MEANT to give you more flakes so you'll keep buy the product again and again, if you're an idiot.
Seriously, I've found I can go weeks without shampooing if I shower everyday with warm water and make sure to get enough water on my scalp and hand clean my hair thoroughly under running water. they get a little oily but i think it's naturally produced oil that's meant to protect the hair. my hair is also buzzed yearround.
and i never use conditioner.

Re: Avoiding shampoo while having dandruff
I use cold water because it's a lot easier on my skin. Warm water tends to dry my skin out. As far as shampoo goes, I caught dandruff a few years back and I started using the Neutrogena (I think) T-Gel shampoo and that seemed to get rid of it. Now I just use whatever shampoo/conditioner combo, use it just about every day and I haven't encountered dandruff problems since then.

If you need something but don't want to use shampoo, use quite diluted ( a couple splashes diluted to a cupful) apple cider vinegar .. works quite well ..

if you watch the advert for head and shoulders, it says on the bottom in small letters that all tests are based on visibility of flakes at 2 feet.
flakes arent really visible at 2 feet, to be honest.
robbing bastards.
