so, my school computer has blocks against opening new programs once they are installed, but, last year, someone showed me adium, and a special little thing to do that made it work, but I don't rememeber what it was. any ideas?

yeah... I thought about that site. Usually the link I provided doesn't help unless they themselves have encountered the issue.

Re: getting adium to work on a school computer
i thought adium was great. nice customizable interface etc.
Until i realized after a while that some msgs randomly wouldn't send and receive, which inevitably lead to confusing conversations.
So back to ugly MSN for me, but hey, at least it works.

The forum placement could not have been more wrong, buddy.

If you just want to message people - open the task manager, and if you can see other users on the network, right click their name (or ID#) and send them a message.

Re: getting adium to work on a school computer
THREAD HIJACK!!!111!!one!!!!
Is there any way to get irc to go through a different port? I've tried to use ChatZilla through PortableFirefox at school, but my school uses SonicWALL firewall, which is a major pain in the ass to circumvent. It blocks the irc ports (6666 and 6667 if I'm not mistaken).
I guess this is a relevant topic...

Re: getting adium to work on a school computer
OP: You might need to configure Adium to use your school's proxy, if it has one. You do this in the connection/network options in Adium. For example, in order to get the internet/other apps working on my school's network I have to connect to the statewide school proxy (proxy.decs.sa.edu.au); if your school doesn't have one, then not sure what it might be--have you checked to see whether your school's firewall is blocking it?
SLice_760: Only thing I could think of would be port forwarding; but I'm unsure how you'd go about doing that with IRC off the top of my head.
