I've got some old pipes I don't use anymore and if its not too much trouble, what are your personal methods to get layers and layers of resin out?

Isopropyl alcohol for the win. Buy the highest concentration you can find. Soak, then bang them over some sort of container to collect the resin, then soak them again. Repeat until they're clean to your liking.

Sure thing. Also, use some kind of pokey tool to scrape the stuff off that won't fall off from banging. Paper clip will do just fine. It shouldn't take much effort to scrape anything off -- the alcohol will do all the work as far as that goes. If you want to smoke the resin in case you run out of whatever, you can collect the stuff on a plate and just wait until the alcohol evaporates and the resin is dried.

Its more of a ceremonial cleaning after quitting deal. But same diff, ty for the advice.

Let the pipe soak for 24 hrs. Run some water through it. Resin should come right off.

This. Some people also add salt to the mix. IMO you should only do this if you just want to get it clean rather than smoke it because you'd obviously be smoking salt as well as resin.
