Under a rock
Question So I am tired of living off Pizza and Chinese...

I live ina a barracks. Pretty much like a college dorm I guess. What I have to work with is a extremely small refrigerator with no freezer/icebox, a microwave, and a skillet type thing. I have used the skillet to cook potatoes and eggs and such, and microwave for burritos/chimichangas, and pizza rolls. What are some things that are semi healthy, but filling that I can make with this? I don't go grocery shopping very much because I have to share that small ass fridge with a rommate, and alot of space is taken up by soda, and a big bucket of country crock butter.

The past 2 months I have been ordering pizza and chinese food almost every night. Some nights I don't eat at all. I know this is extremely bad for me, especially since I need to stay in shape.

sandwiches? keep some bread, meat, and cheese in the fridge. shouldnt take up that much space.

hell, with cheese, butter, and bread you could make a grilled cheese......using nothing but tinfoil and a clothes iron.

Cook scrambled eggs in the microwave, three eggs, three tablespoons of milk, beat it good, microwave for 1 minute, add your choice of frozen peas, corn, carrot, chopped asparagus, ect, and add some salt and black pepper, microwave for another minute until it's nice and solid, serve on toast with barbecue sauce or whatever.

If you like mushrooms, get some bigass field mushrooms, snap off the stem, pile frozen corn and asparagus and ham inside it, put some grated or sliced cheese over the top and microwave for a minute and a half. Or you can slice the mushrooms, put them in a bowl with a couple teaspoons of butter, add black pepper, and microwave that for 1 minute, drain off the liquid and serve it on toast with salt.

I usually cook corn cobs in the microwave, fresh corn or frozen stuff. Cut it into managable peices about 3" long, wrap it in plastic food wrap and microwave it for 2 minutes, it's as good as cooking it in a pot, and the nitrients dont leech off into the water.

True, but noodles such as Ramen have excessive amounts of sodium. For something healthy, I'd go with salad. Cook up some meat and throw it in there, but since you're trying to be healthy, don't use a shitload of greasy beef. Just a little.

The sodium is mostly in that "flavor" packet. I solve this by keeping a jar of pasta sauce in the fridge. Pour some in with the noodle heat it up if need be and you have 3 minute pasta which TBH is actually good, oh and it's even better if you sprinkle some parm on there.

Yeah, the pasta stuff is pretty much pre-cooked, you only need to warm it up. The tomato-based ones are much healthier than the cheese/cream based ones too, plus you can add fresh stuff to it pretty easily.

sausage. get you some brats and some coneys and some good hotdogs and some kielbasa, by hot dog buns as you need them, keep some spicy mustard in the fridge, and it takes about 5 minutes to fry up some dinner.

keep cheese and sour cream and butter, and cook potatoes in the microwave in a shallow dish with some water, when they are soft, open them up, add the other things, and enjoy.

french toast, just eggs, bread and spice.

sandwiches made with peanut butter and (bananas, marshmallow fluff, jam, apples)

buy radioactive milk and eat cereal. cereal is like human dog food.

keep small jars of marinara and some olive oil in the pantry. buy loaves of italian or french bread, eat a whole loaf dipped in marinara and olive oil for dinner.

powdered potato mix can be mixed with water and fried in some butter in the skillet to make crispy potato cakes, top them with ketchup, cheese, onions and sour cream, whatever.

fry eggs, bacon, and bread on different sides of the same pan, and then just put it all together and eat it.

I'm in the exact same position as the OP, except I'm at college. But yeah, really small microfridge thing, no counter space to work with, and actually I don't even have an electric skillet. I've been living off of cafeteria food almost exclusively this year, but unfortunately that sucks so much because it's either cheeseburgers, pizza, unhealthy subs, or chicken nuggets, with fries, chips, or yogurt. I really only have canned soup or easy mac to make to eat. Last year I got stuff for sandwiches, but found I couldn't eat all of the bread and lunch meat before it would go bad. Also, for some reason generic Kroger wheat bread really doesn't taste good. Guess I got to give up the money for the brand name stuff.

Ramen and pasta sauce is an interesting idea...not a big fan of either, but it's worth a try.

Keep in mind, though, guys, that even without the sodium-rich flavor packet, the noodles themselves in most ramen brands are awfully rich in saturated fat. One package of Maruchan Ramen Noodles contains 17 percent of your saturated fat daily intake. Since I'm reasonably sure that one packet won't fill up a military guy or a food-oriented person, it only gets to be more from there.

The Instant Lunch ones (the ones in the styrofoam cup) have a bunch more. One of those babies contains 30% of your saturated fat for the day, and 50% of your recommended sodium intake.

If you're wanting to have anything remotely healthy, these aren't the way to go.
