Why are old Chevy blocks always supercharged and not turbo'd?
Title.
I've noticed that I've never seen a turbocharged Chevy block, they are always supercharged. Why is this?
Thanks.

Re: Why are old Chevy blocks always supercharged and not turbo'd?
It's pretty simple to just take off the intake, plop a super on there, bolt everything down, and get a longer belt.
Superchargers are really old technology that's had a lot of support over the years. It's like asking why do people get married. It works for most everyone, so not too many venture out.

Because superchargers are far more badass than turbochargers.

No, because nothing sounds sweeter than air being raped into a cylinder at 25 psi.

Was actually waiting for that to be posted again. Looking through some old albums I have, I found something cornier.

Re: Why are old Chevy blocks always supercharged and not turbo'd?
As for the original question, there are a lot of very simple, bolt-on supercharger kits for the SBC. Also, V8s have a much lower powerband than smaller motors, so it's better to have a supercharger because you don't have to wind the motor way up to get turbos to kick in.

I cannot tell you how much I just fucking laughed at that. Are you aware that turbos produce more power than superchargers?
Fucking idiot. Plus a ricer would probably blow up his engine trying to install one.

Would you prefer a turbocharged V8 or a supercharged V8?

For fun driving around town I'd prefer supercharged. If I was going to get into competition, though, I'd go turbocharged because the engine would be built for screaming high RPMs anyway.

Do you know how horsepower works?
Want 1000 horsepower at 2000rpm? Get a CAT.

I mean they rev a little too high.
ITS NOT HOW ITS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE.
Related: Should I try get an XR6 Turbo or an XR8 next car?
They'll have fuel cards so I'm tempted to say XR8 because V8 + Fuel Car = WIN WIN WIN.

I mean in the dreary land where you don't normally run 1/4 miles or break 100kph.
Where immediate power matters.

Max torque (probably 90%+) from 2000 rpm. They made this new Turboed 6 into a fine motor, it shits on Fords 8. Plus its Australian.
XR6 - 533Nm @ 2000rpm - 4750rpm
XR8 - 520Nm @ 4750rpm
Thus the 6T is at full capacity earlier in the rev range than the 8,
Edit: and it revs less, you seem to like that for some reason. (though the FPV one revs riiiight out)

Hrrrm, well hopefully Ford will go get some minor tweaking happening by new car time.
V8s just sound so delicious :D:D:D:D
Besides, Turbo + Fuel card doesn't sound as win as
V8 + FUEL CARD = WIN WIN WIN

Jags were never good. Performance aside, build quality was never one of their high points. Granted modern Jag- er, Fords are built by people without instructions, even old ones like to fall apart.

Re: Why are old Chevy blocks always supercharged and not turbo'd?
The reason is tradition. People have been doing it since the 60s. Thus, today, you can just recreate what 1000 other people have done, and the price isn't too bad. People started using roots blowers around the 60s, because they could pull one off a Detroit Diesel (ever wonder why an 8-71 blower is named that? It's the same design as a Detroit 8v71 diesel.)
