Best of luck to you man, atleast your not too far gone that detox is still an option for you. Realize though that benzo withdrawal is one of the hardest and deadliest in the drug world, it puts opiate and cocaine detox to shame.

And yes, they will give you benzos to taper off. No institution will run the risk of doing it 'cold turkey' these days, way to much liability on their part.

as unbelievable as this sounds hes right, at least with heroin you dont have to worry about DT 's and death, yes the withdrawals run a very real risk of killing you

Expect to be irritable as shit, make time to sleep as much as possible as you'll likely be felling like shit most of the time. Any reasonable doctor will taper you off, and if yours wont go to the hospital and they should help you out. I've spent a good part of week withdrawing from heavy benzo abuse, so if you can't taper, have some time put aside. If your use/abuse is not really heavy I would actually suggest going cold turkey, as this tends to break the psychological portion better. Good luck to you sir.

It all depends on how far you are. Have you been dependent for a long time? What are your doses? What benzos are you taking(This is the biggest factor)?

As for symptons, they vary widely: from paranoia, panic attacks, anxiety, insomnia, shakes, severe depression, terrible headaches to the feeling of nothing is real(depersonalization). Cold turkey symptoms are anything from muscle spasms to seizures to a comatose state.

Again, the severity of your withdrawal is going to be dependent on how long you've been on them and what ones you are taking. But definatley go for tapering off your dose, no matter what.. I cannot stress that enough. I tried to detox twice off benzos cold turkey and both times it landed me in the ER. Learn from other peoples idiot mistakes

Yes I have, I tried to detox myself twice off benzos, both foolishly cold turkey. The second time almost killed me, and my crooked ass doctor has made it quite to me that I will probaly be taking benzos till the day that I die. Fucking prick

And yes, you do have that terrible flu feeling while withdrawing, even more so with benzos then opiates. All the symptoms that you mentioned were in full effect, along with most of what I mentioned while I was going through withdrawals, and Ill tell you I wouldnt wish it upon my worst enemies. But eventually they all stopped; once you start convulsing you really dont tend to notice headaches or any other flu like symptons. I'll tell you that from first hand experience Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Dude...what? Where the hell are you going, and how much have you been eating?

I'm not positive what kind of factor your Suboxone is going to play as a variable in this, but don't be surprised if they taper you with phenobarbital instead of benzos. It's very common in a lot of rehabs because it's still sufficient to prevent seizures, which is obviously your biggest risk. If you've been messing with a high regimen I'm not aware of, though, they'll probably have to taper you down to reasonable enough level where the switch (if there is one) to phenobarb will be smooth and (mostly) painless.

If they do decide on a benzo taper, it'll usually be done with a diazepam regimen; it's basically the gold standard for tapering from other benzos. Well, diazepam and Librium, but I doubt you're going to see Librium being used much anymore considering every other benzo is basically an advanced version of it.

Let me know how it's going either way-- hope it works out for you. Ring me when/if you can.
