Default Feeling Bad about "Addiction"

now lets get one thing straight......I do realize that compared to some of the heroin addicts on this bored i have nothing to bitch about but hear me out.

I have addictive tendencies. I NEVER let it get out of control to where it runs my life, however sometimes i do go overboard. For instance, its not uncommon on the rare accasions i do drink, i tend to get blackout drunk.

When i smoke some reefer, even if i spent 1 hour of the high paranoid and worried about school, as soon as i sober up i want another hit.

When im bored, I get ideas like "Lets take 10 Kava pills and drink tripple brewed kava tea!".

I dont use drugs and alcohol all the time, its far from habitual use. But when i do decide to "use", i tend to go overboard. Psychedelics are another issue, going overboard with those got me in alot of trouble.

Thoughts? Flames? Discussion?.

I guess the real reason i wrote this thread was for some feedback. We all have issues and problems. Is it so wrong to have a "Marijuana addiction"?

He doesn't sound at all like a troll, actually.

I don't really identify with this, but I know where your coming from. You just can't seem to learn from your dosing mistakes, it always just sounds fun?

Honestly I think just some good ol willpower can solve this. It won't be easy, but next time you decide you wanna down the rest of that bottle................wait for it................just say no!

Now let's get one thing straight, there is no such thing as an addiction to pot. It is not possible period.

You can have a habit, but not an addiction.

And no, there is nothing wrong with having a pot habit. Not unless it is getting in the way of your life. As in not paying bills because you're buying pot or not being sociable anymore because you'd rather sit and be stoned by yourself or something.

You will learn moderation in time and with use. People tend to take it to the limit when they are younger. Well, I, and a lot of people I know did. This is assuming you have some resemblance of a brain... Otherwise you should either give up this stuff now or learn to suck a mean dick.

It's called binging and yes there is some risk of addiction. Your situation however seems to be pretty light weight. Respect your drugs, IMO it's better to get real fucked up once a week than mid fucked up every day. You just gotta continue to remind yourself not to let it get out of hand, but don't let that guilt ruin your good time.

Once again BLTC has disappointed me with another misleading topic. I thought this was going ot be about the social stigmas behind different drugs, and the concept of how one drug can be the bane of man kind such as heroin, while morphine is touted as the great healer while drugs like LSD are not legal at all, and not even used in a medical setting, despite being the safest fucking thing there is.

Or maybe how Sandoz the same company that Albert Hoffman was hired to, and assigend to research those fateful ergot substituions is now marketing a new drug. Or, rather, have been, and the drug isn't new either.

Methamphetamine for "severe" " ADD/ADHD", if anything could even be properly called or treated as such.

I think this speaks volumes about the world, the powers that be and how much of a FUCK they really don't give. About you, or anyone.

On a more serious note though learn to control your behavior better. Find the importance in balance in your life, and get fucked up when necessary. Although this is all stuff that you're going to have to figure out for yourself.

Nothing wrong with an addictive personality as long as you understand and are okay with the consequences. Doing LSD all the time might just turn your mind in the wrong direction. Make you an unsociable acid freak. It doesn't "put holes in your brain", but it has strayed many people far from reality because they took too much, too often.

The mind has the power to heal or make ill. If you drink everyday and worry about liver cancer each time you take a sip, you're more likely to get it than someone who doesn't think about it. Keith Richards doesn't worry about getting sick at all, and doesn't. He smokes constantly and doesn't have any lung problems, even in his older age. Not to mention the drug history.

Plenty of people have lived happily to an old age with addictions that lasted the majority of their life. Many people also died early because the addictions killed them. But if you're going to do it anyway... just do it in moderation, feel happy about it (if you don't then why bother) and don't worry.

Oh please!

True, some people have had a perm melt down from acid - most notably Syd Barrett. But it is pretty rare and requires that you have an unstable mind to begin with.

In the 10 to 15 years that I took acid I have tripped several hundred times. This was 80's acid too, not the weak crap that passes for acid these days. I even took 65 hits in one night. And I have not a single negative effect from it either.

And as for the whole Reefer addiction part of the reason i get so bugged by it because society looks down on stoners so much. It makes me feel like a fucking criminal and hardcore drug user when i know god damn well im not. It just sucks to have so many people so ignorant on 1 topic ya know?

Vilbe is right, you can abuse the body quite a lot before you experience detrimental effects.

I'm severely bipolar myself (the severity was intensified by medications that increased my manias and the frequency of my cycles), and I do believe that cannabis can increase the chance of early manifestation of psychological disorders. I do believe that I would be "odd" still, without the cannabis, but I believe I would be a different odd, a much more depressed "odd". Only later would I have descended as far as I have into madness now. Perhaps much later.

I wouldn't change much, though.

The tendency for people to go overboard is a problem that I'd say about 50-70% of drug users have. I am one of them. It's that feeling that you could get just a little bit higher if you smoked one more bowl or ate one more pill.

If I am drinking I refuse to be without a mix/shot in my hand. If I don't have enough alcohol to get wasted I don't even bother. This sort of excessive behavior is nothing new.

If you tend to feel guilty and paranoid after smoking you just need to stop smoking. You aren't addicted and if it seems difficult to stop it's only because your making it that way. You're saying it isn't a habit even though you admit that you aren't genuinely enjoying it when you get high but you continue to smoke. Doesn't seem very consistent to me.

The term mental addiction is really misused. It's be far better off described as Habitual use. It's something you've become accustomed to and are just use(or used..I don't know) to doing it. It isn't something that would cause dangerous or extremely uncomfortable WD symptoms. The worst your looking at is the feeling of being unable to eat and a slight case of irritability.

It's like smoking cigarettes. Some people have far more trouble kicking the habit because they have developed "busy hands". The very action of smoking and having something to do with your hands is a large part of the addiction. Long time smokers develop physical habits that add to the problem making it that much harder to quit.

This.
I smoke cigarettes everyday simply because its just something to do with your hands- something to do. Its odd, but if i don't have the choice and can't smoke it doesn't affect me too badly. For example, i spent 2 weeks in a situation where i couldn't smoke, and i experienced no negative effects- no mental dependence issue, and no signs of physical withdrawal. This is from someone who usually smokes 3-5 cigarettes a day- it isn't much; but it certainly is enough to leave me with alot of the negative side effects associated with tobacco withdrawal.
I don't think my experience is that of the norm, come to think of it- to me smoking is simply something i can do with my hands.
Why do i do it, then? I experience no immediate psychoactive boost, nor do i receive any mental pleasure- i simply do it out of custom.
Stupid, really..

So, say my constant urges to blow my current drug tests by smoking a joint is a habit? I, from personal and researched experience (heavily on personal) have found marijuana to by psychologically addicting. It mostly stems from using weed to replace other methods of coping with problems (Depression, anxiety, hunger, sleep, driving to the store to get a pack of smokes) that you previously handled alright on your own but once you had weed to make it easier (and better) its much more difficult to go back to how things were before.

I'm (as I often do) playing devils advocate, I consider marijuana addiction about a 0.9/10 on the scale of addictions. But its fucking there and anyone who supports marijuana legalization has to be a champion of the truth instead of distorting it as the gov has.

I don't consider it addiction, but I sure as fuck consider it as important as food. Then again, I smoke for chronic pain, not to rebel against mommy and daddy, or to fit in, or the legions of other dumb ass reasons a good majority of people here have.

I consider it as important as food because if I can't smoke, I hurt, and that pretty much kills any desire to eat, making things even worse. When I smoke pot regularly, I eat more and hurt less. And trust me, I need to eat, I weigh like 140 pounds, if that. Every little thing counts.

Addiction is a pretty loaded word anyway. I think the term habit forming is more accurate as well as much less offensive.

Addiction is old speak, used by old doctors following old standards, that have been proven to not only fail, but cause more problems.

Only when we look at "addiction" in a proper light, will we be able to start to make a difference. First and foremost should be looking at things in a more objective manner and start to treat "addicts" as regular people who have just chosen habits that can be bad for them.

Addiction is another buzz word of the drug war. To describe a drug as addictive, one should say habit forming, an addict is an habitual drug user, etc etc etc.

The term addict is quite offensive.

I think the term "addict" is too widely used.

Giving a pack-a-day smoker the same label as a dope fiend just doesn't seem right.
