Can I make the switch to a user friend linux distro and have a full functioning PC?

ATI 1600
Conexant dial up modem

Those were the two issues I had. Can I easily make the switch? Are drivers available?

ATI card should be fine, AMD's been great at releasing drivers and specs.

The modem I'm not sure about. I do know another totsean has one of those though, so I'll ask him to post here.

I reckon you should be fine with any mainstream distro.

Dialup modems are 10 a penny these days anyway, if the worst comes to the worst.

Problem is, the driver is not free, you'll be limited to about half the normal speed of the modem. Any keygens or anything like that won't work, trust me.

As for the ati, I'd go with slackware and get the fglrx drivers off slackbuilds.
