I currently have a G4 Powerbook 15". I want to downgrade to either a G4 PowerBook 12" or a G4 iBook 12".

Is it better to sacrifice processing power or RAM? I'll be using the laptop like your average joe. Internet, iTunes, watching DVDs/movies, downloading shit, iWorks (Pages and Keynote mostly). I won't be gaming or burning DVDs so screen size and a superdrive don't matter to me.

So:

1. What's better to sacrifice? Processing power or RAM?
2. PowerBook or iBook? The reason I ask is that iBooks for the same specs cost somewhat less than PBs. But they lack the shinny case im so used to. :-/

Anything else you guys want to throw at me (info, etc) that'll help me decide I'll be more than happy to know.

thx

How big of a difference are we talking here? As in how much processor/memory do you have now compared to what you'll have. Unless the processor difference is a crazy amount my answer will be that it is more beneficial for you to take the better RAM. And if the cost is the less for the iBook compared to the Powerbook and the specs are the same and the difference is only the case then obviously, you need to make the decision for yourself on whether you want the case or not.

I'm just curious as to why you want to downgrade to a PB or iB. Why not pick up one of the current MacBooks? The sale of your PowerBook could probably get you at least halfway to a midrange MacBook.

I'm guessing he wants it because of the 1.3" difference.

Yes. I want a smaller laptop.

Currently I have PB 15" G4 1.25Ghz, 1 GB ram and 80GB HD, Superdrive, bluetooth, airport.

What I'm looking at is: PB 12" G4 +1Ghz, +700mb ram, +60 GB HD, combo drive, airport. And same specs for iBooks.
