Motorcycle jacking
So im looking at getting a motorcycle. I have the money to afford one but i really dont want to spend the money on it at the moment. Motorcycles are approximately 400-600 lbs depending on size and rather easy to hide. So here is my strategy. Searching craigslist for potential bikes, having a buddy check out the bike who couldnt track back to me, and as long as the bike is stored in a way easily accessible go on over in a friends pick up throw it in the bed (with a mattress underneath as to be able to lay the bike down) and then hide the bike in my garage for 6-12 months.
So heres my question, after stealing the bike would i still be able to insure the bike later for my own personal use? Also what would be the easiest/fastest way to get the bike into the back of the truck?
Any ideas?

Re: Motorcycle jacking
I have stolen a few bikes in my day. To start off what kind of bike are you talking? Dirtbike? street bike? I dont know any dirtbike that is even close to 400lbs. Anyway alot of sellers are aware of people coming by and then coming back later to steal it. Matress wouldnt be necessary, just turn the gas valve off so it dosent leak everywhere and you should be fine. To get it all legal, you would need to buy a new frame with the title and reassemble it to regester it in any way.

Motorcycles are registered and monitored in the same way as cars. Unless you produce a clear title you cannot register the bike, and if you cant register it, you cant insure it.

I was afraid of that. Well in that case i might just stick with dirt bikes rather then street bikes. If i did get my hands on a street bike i could always resell it.

They are light -- reason why mine is insured and garage kept. =)
My ZX6R has a dry weight of 360 (IIRC).
However I wouldn't say they are rather easy to ride.
Three motorcycles.
Over 100K miles.
7 years later...
I still consider myself a intermediate rider bordering on the novice.

Re: Motorcycle jacking
he means easy to HIDE... ie it'd be easy to put someplace inconspicuous.
And stick w/ stealing sports bikes; you don't wanna end up crossing the Hell's Angels or anything.

Thanks,
I misread "hide" and mistook as as ride.
