Default Vinpocetine \ Intelectol

well i was on slickdeals a few weeks ago, and noticed the offer for a free sample pack of these. got it today, and just curious if anybody has experience with it.

erowid only had 5 or 6 reports, didnt really learn a whole lot.

i took 20mg about 3 hours ago, nothing spectacular. didnt expect a whole lot, but yah.

basicly, its made short term memory slightly better, and some colors seem slightly more vivid.

overall, decent for free. wouldnt ever spend $ on it. tommorow ill see how it helps at school, taking tests and stuff.

anybody have experience/info?

It's decent, but shouldn't be used everyday, as some studies indicate it might deplete neurotransmitters or something, thus decreasing a person's intelligence in the long term, or something. It's not clear (and studies into pretty much all nootropics tend to be somewhat lacking,) but I wouldn't want to risk it. It's okay now and then, but if you're looking for a more reliable smart drug, to be taking a bit more regularly, I'd go with piracetam and choline. Also, maybe ALCAR (acetyl-l-carnitine), but that's good for a whole bunch of things.

What are you intending to get from your legal supplements? There's a lot that offer a whole bunch of different benefits. Vinpocetine is alright, but not something a person adds to their daily stack. Nutraceuticals, (extracted chemicals found naturally in many foods, etc) in general seem much more healthy/safer than various synthesized drugs.

im not really looking into nootropics long term. depending on how this goes, i might feel motivated to look further into them.

Not a link to the article itself, but a thread discussing it. I just sort of glossed over it, because te technical jargon just makes me feel ignorant. The forums I'm linking to on are quite good for information on these topics, though:

Yeah, I was in a similar place. But then I decided that there are some that work for me in a way that's substantial enough to validate the costs, and I like the effects of them, so I can't see going off them any time soon. You may make the opposite decision, some people don't get much from some of these drugs, so I think you're going about it the right way.

I take some things essentially every day, though... except when in an off-phase (a chunk of time when I don't take any supplements at all, so my body doesn't get too used to it, and they stay effective/beneficial). I think if you decide these things are of interest, and you care to continue with them, it's worth it to research which are better in the long term, as there's little point in taking something that has only short term benefits.

No problem. Lately I've been getting quite into nutritional supplements and nootropics, so it's somewhat of an area of personal interest.

Yeah, understandable. Vinpocetine is pretty good, for being a bit more noticeable than some other nootropics. Piracetam, for instance, I find better overall, but it's much more subtle, and you're even less likely to notice the effects, IMO. Though, in my case, it's definately not a placebo. It has an observable effect, just not quite as readily noticeable as vinpocetine.

If you're young, I'd try to avoid most of the vasodilators (which vinpocetine, and gingko biloba are). When you're young, blood flow/circulation to the brain should already be quite good, so there shouldn't be much need to play around with it. Experimentation is fine, especially considering that it's free, but as far as brain functioning goes, when you're young, you really shouldn't need chemically-enhanced blood-flow to the brain, yet.
