| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Steam (and online games) question
Ok, this might be more of a T&T question but since it's game related and I already have a Steam thread in T&T I figured I would post it here.
Anyway, I just got Steam working, (see this thread) and as many of you probably know, the top 5 Source mods were just released for free with full Steam support. My brother just got the HL2: EP1 deal on Steam for $5 so he can play all the new Source mods, and we tried to play a game several times in the same server on the same internet connection, and for some reason, every time both of us tried to join in the same server the game froze or disconnected.
What is going on here? Is it even possible for multiple players to play Steam games (or any online games) in the same server from the same internet connection? I sure hope so, because it would be lame if you couldn't.

Re: Steam (and online games) question
I am connected to a router, and no, we are not using the same account. It's very strange, because I thought that it would work, and it should, right?
Me and my bro just wanted to play some Zombie Panic! Source in the same server and I kept having errors connecting.

I used to play 1.6 with my bro online from the same IP. Its gotta be a problem at your end, unless one of these new fandangled steam updates disallows it for some reason.

That would be really gay... do you think it could be my router? I just can't figure out what this is... We can play Steam at the same time, and have no problems (even have low latency). I get a disconnect error every time I try to join a server he is in, however. Maybe it would work if we started a server? Would a dedicated server be a good idea? I have a shitty 500 mhz Celeron already set up as a proxy server in my basement.

Re: Steam (and online games) question
its nothing to do with router or any thing like that , if it was it would tell you so ... to be honest it sounds more like a specific computer error , have you tried one at a time see if it still occurs

Re: Steam (and online games) question
It could just be the mods... since I just got Counter-Strike: Source and me and my bro were able to play online in the same server in that game. So, yeah I'll update that.
