| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Sega Channel
One day a good long time ago I was sitting in my house playing on my SNES. Then there was a knock at the door. I went to answer it and it turned out to be the cable dude. He looked down and asked me if I like playing games, to which I responded "HELLS YEAH NEGRO!" except considering I was around 10 it probably came out as "Gee wilikers I sure do love playing games mister! Why do you ask?" The man ended up coming in and speaking to me and my mom about a new gaming "device" known as Sega Channel. I begged my mom to get it for me and she ended up obliging.
Sega Channel was a cartridge that you put in the Sega Genesis and plugged up to a coax cable. Once plugged in and powered up a screen would come up that was organized into genres. Everything. Action, Adventure, Puzzle, RPG, Fighting, Racing, Sports and Misc. Each tab was filled with tons of games for each game type. At the first or second of each month this huge list of games would be (mostly) updated with a whole new plethora of games. The games ranged from popular to obscure. I loved this thing and would always sit up past 1 am on the first of the month to see what my new gaming selection was for the month ahead.
I have a really hard time finding anyone else that had this. Did anyone here in GPP ever get this great piece of brilliance or was this cable dude a gift from above to show me that life was worth living?

I remember that. It ruled. I didn't have it for more than a week though.

Re: Sega Channel
About a half a year after I got Sega Channel, some asshole that my brother pissed off broke into our house and stole our TV and my Sega.

Re: Sega Channel
Not quite... I did have the DC I bought in Jan/Feb 2001 because of Edge raving about PSO. Then of course we all know what happened next. But it was so worth it.
I had picked up a secondhand Megadrive and Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos Engine in the intervening years. (Between N64 and DC.)

Try and think beyond the confines of your own head maybe. It's pretty fun, I assure you.

You mentioned a Dreamcast which could play online.
You mentioned that at one time you bought a Sega Genesis.
Nowhere did you mention owning the SEGA Channel, a peripheral that let you download new Genesis games via cable.
Fail, GTFO.
