| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Legalization of Weed=Tax and Production
3.5 grams/a slice/1/8th of dank weed could cost you 40$Then say you put a 10% tax to the government of each bag.Thats 4$ for this bag say included. So times that by 8 for 8ths a ounze You would have 32$ for each ounze produced. Then growers are put into a legit business. Then the government taxes these growers for there skill. Marijuana use goes up ,paranoia of getting caught goes down and everyone is in a win win situation. This would help out this country.
512$tax/pound
Profits of WEED/Head shops score
Everyones stoned on weed
Alcohol abuse goes down
512$ a pound is a rough figure in a mass market weed would be imagined a little cheaper.
But then all these name brand growers profit and create jobs.

Re: Legalization of Weed=Tax and Production

Re: Legalization of Weed=Tax and Production
No, just no. The tax wouldn't be the same. First of all, marijuana is DIRT cheap to produce. A pack of 20x1g joints would cost roughly 2 dollars if there were no duties or taxes on it, and farmers could grow it freely in large fields. If they charged 40$ for the eigth the farmers would be rich, but that won't happen as long as there's capitalism in America. Say if its taxed the same way cigarettes are. It may look like you're just paying normal tax on cigarettes, but you also pay duties which depending on where you live, can be between 200 to 1000%. In Norway for example, a pack of cigarettes costs 15$, while if there were no duties they'd cost 2.50$ a pack. Say if weed was taxed, they could indeed charge 10$ a gram, however you have to take into account people growing at home. You can have a few plants in your garden and have enough to supply yourself for a whole year. So the taxation wouldn't be all that profitable.
Besides, taxation is not about profitting from anything, its about the redistribution of goods. The tax money ultimately goes back into circulation in society. Its just a way of saying to smokers that since you smoke and we don't like smoke we're going to redistribute your wealth for our compensation. It doesn't make much sense all.
