Default old seeds?

i have an uncovered bowl on my shelf that has about 500 seeds in it ive been collecting (coming from anything from shitty mexican weed to that rare seed you find in a bag of good mids) and its been there for a long time, is it worth it to try and plant them all and see if anything grows, or are they probably to old? alot of them are over a year old

i put about 20 of the best looking seeds in some wet paper towels and 4 of them started to grow after a few days. i put the healthiest one in a metal can (empty rolling tobacco can) with holes poked in the bottom and used some all purpose potting soil i found in the shed. so i have lights, water, soil and a sprouting seed.

am i on the right track? is this amateur missing any crucial steps? this is my first plant and it would be nice if it actually yields.

edit: i always read about using these different chemicals and nutrients, paying attention to a strict schedule, this all seems to overwhelming to someone who has never done this. isn't it possible to grow a plant with as little work as possible, just watering it when the soil gets to dry and turning the lights on and off. i mean, it's just a weed?

Post Re: old seeds?

they arent really that difficult to grow....simply dont over fertilze/water

and make sure to give it good lighting

i think all the rest that you are reading online is basically to make your plant better/stonger/larger.... not neccesities

from my friends that have sucessfully grown, they say cannabis doesnt require more care than any other regular plant

The only real complications:
Theres a specific number of hours per day that they need light to grow, and a different amount of light to bud
And the soil needs to be around a cirtain pH level (i dont remember this info, but it should be easy to find)

IIRC, 12/12 (12 hours on, 12 hours off) for growing stage and something like 10/14 for budding. and your probably supposed to reduce the light each day too.

anyways, just buy a timer from canadian tire. it's like three dollars.

well my plant is in the trash and my lights are mia, i didnt want to move out untill im 20 or so but my parents are fucked, they allow me to smoke in the house and leave my pipes and bongs laying around but noooo, i cant grow a small plant because then the cops will smell it and take the house away... end rant..

anyways it was still a learning experience and i still learned some stuff, still have plenty of seeds and only lost a few days.

wow that post was completely irrelevant, you would turn totse into your blog if your dad threw away your first plant too.
