| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Alternative to the Wall St. Bailout -- PLEASE READ
Yes, I know there are several threads about this topic already. I felt it was necessary to create a new topic for this because I want to try to spread the word about this idea as quickly and widely as possible. If you like my idea, please forward it to your congressional representatives as soon as possible. One question the corporate news media always asks of those opposed to the $700 billion bailout is, Well, we need to do something, whats your idea?
My idea is simple and elegant. The Federal Reserve Bank is telling us that we need to borrow up to $700 billion from them, at interest, to bail out Wall Street. I say, lets eliminate the middleman
the US taxpayer. The Federal Reserve Bank, as we all know, is a privately owned bank. Let them loan the $700 billion directly to Wall Street themselves.
The beauty of this idea is that there is no good way for the Fed to say no. What can they say?
We dont feel its a good credit risk. But theyre asking us to take that risk.
We dont care enough about the US economy to make the loan. Then I guess we shouldnt either. After all, they would suffer just as much as we would.
Its really not important enough to the US economy for us to make that loan. So now youre telling us its not so important after all?
Once again, if you like the idea, please spread it around. If enough people are aware of this simple alternative, we can save future generations billions of dollars.

but... something like that might stop businesses across america from collapsing due to not being able to roll over their loans... without saving anyone who caused this mess!
Good heavens the government can't do something like that!
