Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
Hi,
I have been trying to find a laptop off ebay to use for uni as well as leisure. I want to play games like Halo 2, Counter Strike Source and also a few newer games, with the best possible graphics within my budget...
these are the two i've found
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ASUS-M50-2-2G...d=p3286.c0.m14
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....m=130254251755
One has more VRAM but is a lower ranked video card, and the other has less VRAM but is classified as an HD card.
Playing older games would be fun if I could make them look as good as possible.
Which one should I choose?
THANKS!

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
I have done a little digging, and correct me if I am wrong..
But the ASUS M50 (first link) is better because it has 512MB VRAM instead of 256MB, like the other laptop.
I saw games like Unreal Tournament 3 have 512MB VRAM as minimum system requirements....So yeah, go with the M50?
I don't need to play crysis, but more like games such as UT3, CSS, Call of Duty, and some newer games FLUENTLY on highest settings if possible.
All help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
I don't think the M50 will even come close to playing newer games fluently on higher settings.

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
I see,
Well remember im not a hardcore gamer, so I don't need to be playing very top of the line games, but games which are pretty new and still look really nice on higher settings.
I still kind of confused, because you say the F8SA is better, yet games like Unreal Tournament 3 require at least 512MB VRAM, and the F8SA only has 256M RAM/ shared up to 1G RAM...That shared up to 1G ram bit I don't get.
So....Yeah :|

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
Shared Mem- Means it will use the system ram ONLY if it has too. And 9 times out of 10 the system ram is a lot slower than the vram.

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
So maybe just go with the ASUS m50 (first link) because even though the graphics card is shitter, it has double the VRAM, so total performance will be better??
Only really want to play games with graphics like UT3 and maybe Call of Duty 4.

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
Isn't COD4 pretty graphics intensive though?

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
Yeah, I was gonna say...you say that you dont want to play "top of the line games", yet you want to play pretty new games that have great graphics. What difference is there? I would make up your mind...either you want to play the new games that come out, or not. Leave the "top of the line" games like that one game crynix or cygenic or whatever that fucking game is called, out of this.

Re: Trouble picking laptop for better gaming
Great help [/sarcasm]. Although I perhaps wasn't 100% clear on what I was asking because I don't know what im talking about really, the gist of what I am getting at is pretty clear. I want the capabilities of each to be explained to figure out what suits which types of games more.. What a fucking waste of time. Now I remember why I left totse.
I bet half of you didn't even look at the laptop specs.

What the FUCK are you talking about? Fucking Halo 2 isnt a 14 year old game, neither is CSS, nor is COD4. Seriously, you are fucking confused.
Get the M50, it has a bigger screen, and more video ram. The video card isnt super, but it will definitely be able to play those games that you want. If you want to play your games on the highest settings, then you are waaaay out of your price area.
Oh, and you left totse? Then why the fuck are you posting on totse??
