Anyone ever been caught this way? Whats the danger of leaving prints on the shopped car. I need this for my novel.

Slim/none chance of them actually caring enough to get prints and the chances of an unobstructed print being left on a door handle or anywhere for that matter are very small. The only way I could see them going for prints is if you got something that was very valuable or a gun.

How valuable would something have to be to warrant dusting for finger prints?

if it's valuable for them to need to check for fingerprints then they wouldn't even leave it in there for it to get stolen in the first place.

If you're underage or never got your prints taking they will never know. 5-0 aint gonna take prints because it wont prove much anyways. Wouldnt it just be easier to wear gloves anyway?

It's only going to be an issue if you've already got prints in a criminal database or if you get caught/become suspect.

They won't dust for prints on a car shopping. I'd guess you need to break the thousand-dollar mark, or steal a gun. Despite what csi says, they typically only run prints for felonies and the like
That said, stay away from cop cars. I mean, your main character should stay away from cop cars.

this. you definatly need to have commited a felony before they're gonna even bother. buy some jersey gloves. anything cotton. not latex like u see on the movies. ur hands sweat, leave partials.
