breaking car windows from a distance
I'm writing a novel and am at a point where the protagonist decides to become a vandal and break police car windows for the fun of it.
I don't want to go with firearms, cause it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the story. Also rocks are too... simple, plus I'd have a hard time explaining why he doesn't get caught, seeing as he'd have to be kind of close to throw the rock in the first place.
Any creative ideas?

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
Glovegun. I used to be able to break window panes with 6mm bb's from a pretty fair distance.
EDIT: I also just found out that the third google result for glovegun is a totse textfile.

Telekinesis!
A slingshot or something of the like from a few floors up would work too.

ninja rocks + sling shot (sling shots are mutha fuckin powerful)
or BB gun that he bought at a local market that shoots metal pelats, my friend has one of those and while trying to shoot me, he shot his bros BMW and made an indent the size of a bullet (he was using platic not metal at the time)

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
If your going to use glove gun or slingshot by far the best thing the character for such a story could do is use marbles as ammunition.
I'm not talking about those pretty little packaged bags of marbles at the local shop, i'm talking $1 for like 100 at a second hand store.
Fuck buying brandnew rip off marbles when you could get 1000's for $1 in some cases.
Most people would be like ballbering + glovegun..
Where's your average person gonna get a ballbering from, cheaply in a quantity that would make black ops fun.
Rocks just don't work that well for slingshots or gloveguns, marbles are just better..
If your character is paranoid, soak the marbles over night then use gloves.
Marbles are quite common really, great ammo.

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
some good ideas here, i always really wondered if a bb gun could break a window, if this really is for the story have the kid be a ghetto vandal whos a good throw with a brick. but if your thinkin the same thing i was thinking a while ago i researched and found out that the little ball bearings at the end of spark plugs are made out of ceremic and thats why "ninja rocks" smash windows with such ease, steal a few spark plugs or learn how to make them and shoot em out of slingshots or a shitty bb gun

or you could always grab a whole bunch of ceremic glassware and "experiment" use a ceremic plate as a frisbee lol or use a small roundish cup like a baseball. dont quote me itll probably fail but thats what i heard, ceremic.

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
slingshot-steel shots.
VERY powerful.
Have your character invest in a nice 40-60$
Pellet gun -handgun. I got this metal handgun-pellet that shoots at about 500fps. Put in the correct ammo and your set.

I've always wondered if you could get ceramic ball bearings that fit in a bb gun/rifle.

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
if its air powered the piece of ceramic just needs to fit down the barrel. If its not perfect it might lose a bit of power but it should work :S
I doubt you could get actual ceramic ball bearings but why would you go through the trouble when you can get metal ones quite easily anyway?

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
If you wanted your guy to be a little mischievous, he could use a high power slingshot (yes this should work), to hit the window with a piece of dry ice (frozen CO2), it will melt and evaporate.

Re: breaking car windows from a distance
Well, if I were in a situation where I wanted to guarantee I would break a car window from a distace, I would just whip a C battery at it.
I once saw a woman in a cowboys jersey get hit with a C battery at Veterans Stadium, that Eagles game fucking ruled.

It's a thread about f*cking the police. It should always be assumed...
-----------------------------------------------------------
Catapult. How awesome would that be, you could be 100 yards away or so and start raining bricks. It'd work on the light bar, roof, hood, antenna.... Pretty sweet. Especially if you scaled it up and launched em 20 at a time. That would be a sight to see... Cheap version of this would be a skeet shooter.
Bow and arrow would work, but not well. Potato cannon o' rocks? we launched golfballs well over 200 yards with one of these once... golfballs+golf club would work if you had some skill. Also, I want to read your book when its done.
