Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
Ive been brain storming lately and thinking about a project I would like to occupy myself with. I love drinking, not in an alcoholic sense, but a pleasurable sense. So I thought about perhaps creating a liquor and really getting it out there. How hard is it to break into this market, and where do I start? And if its not too much to ask, do you guys know of any tutorials that teach you how to brew vodkas and what really goes into it?

Re: Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
Do your own research on brewing.
Spend a couple years getting your liquor recipe to the point that people will pay for it.
Get a license to produce liquor.
Sell your shit to local bars n liquor stores.

Re: Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
If you're planning on doing this you're going to have to make sure you have something unique. Don't just make another brand of Vodka and don't think just flavoring it with raspberry or some shit is going to cut it. You'll need to do something that has never (or rarely) been done before and find a way to make it for a cheap price so you can maximize profit and keep your brew affordable. You'll need a license and a safe place to make your alcohol as well. It damn sure isn't going to be easy.

the most important thing is to look up your local laws about it and see what permits you need and what you need to get one.

Re: Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
Its common in NZ to 'HomeBrew' this can be beer or alcohol.
Every city has a few Homebrew shops for supplys etc.
The Voda brewers just make alcohol & then dilute it to 40%.
If the buyer wants it to be flavored the brewer will do that at little extra cost.
Theres a few sites based in NZ that will have all the info you need.
They will also sell you the 'Still' for several hundred $$.
Theres a knack to it in the carbon cleaning & seperating the first Methanol cut from the Ethanol cut (GOTTA be done!) but after a few brews you will know most of what you need.
You can look at the Stills & figure out what you need & then make your own still.
Most of the still is just Commercial kitchen Stainless steel stuff.
The dome part can be made out of a SS wash basin, scrapmetalers would have almost all of what you want.
Sell or swap it to other piss heads, supply partys, but beware that drunk people aren't the nicest people to be around.

Why wouldnt I? My entire family runs shopping centers. All together they own well over a dozen liquor stores, corner shops, and gas stations; thats just our very close relatives. Many family friends are in the same type of business, and to top it off my folks have big juice with people in the casino business. All these people would be more than happy to stock my product on their shelves and clubs =P

Re: Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
For starters, you "distill" vodka and other hard liquors. You also need to get a federal license to distill, even if it's just a home operation (I don't think this permit is very hard to get though). You can get a small still of Ebay for around 100-200$ which is all you really need while working on a recipe. You're also going to need an ass load of potatoes.
And remember, there is more to good vodka than repeatedly distilling/filtering it.

Re: Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
Just make your own still out of a large pot, copper pipe, and copper scrubbies. Oh, and braze the copper, dont solder.
For a 7 gal pot, I used 5 feet of 2.5 inch copper pipe. This was followed by another 5 feet of thin (3/8ths inch?) tubing, run inside a larger pipe as a water cooling jacket.
Take the first ~100mL and pull it aside, this will be mixed in with the next batch. From there it depends on what you want. For "dirtier" alcohols, you'll use less copper scrubbies in the column, so that more of the fusels get through.

Re: Making Vodka and getting it on the market?
your going to have to jump through alot of legal bullshit to due this, as you intend. less if you just plan on doing it for home consumption...
the markets kinda saturated with vodka, don't you think? pick something else to make your liquor out of...
