*First time with LSD
I've taken 2 and 3 hits of LSD in the past but I have never actually tripped. I'm trying to have a powerful experience and try to achieve ego loss, I was thinking about taking 8-10 gel tabs of questionable potency...I know acid trips vary greatly and effect people in different ways, but is there anything in general (other than what I could find on erowid) that I can expect from taking this amount? I don't think I would have a problem with the trip becoming overwhelming or to intense but my only concern is the environment, I can do it at my college campus or my friends apartment. The problem with on campus is that I just transferred so I am much more comfortable around my friend from home with the apartment, also I would be concerned about becoming bored as theres really not much to do. The latter problem applies to my friends apartment, not having anything to do. It's pretty small and in a bad part of the city, my friend said he wouldn't be comfortable walking around the city late at night with someone who is on acid and if I'm stuck in his room the whole time I wouldn't know what to expect.
I planned on mostly trying to focus on self-evaluation, would it be possible that I could entertain myself with just that for a significant period of time? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't want to ruin the experience by becoming to eager to try it without taking proper preperation into consideration.

Re: *First time with LSD
Yeah I've never done or seen gel tabs, just blotters, but if its at all the same then 8-10 is probably in the area of way to much. Not lethal or anything but I myself would have a terribly hard time handling that much. If your sure they are of decent quality, I'd drop like 2 or 3 and see what happens, I'm not big into psychadelics though, and have actually made the personal decision never to do them again.
Oh and if your doing acid by yourself, it might not be fun to be with others who aren't on it, find a tripping buddy. College campuses are all right, but not if you don't know many people, and certainly not at the dose of 8-10 gel tabs.
I'd wait, find a friend who will accompany you on your trip, and find a better place. A wide open field on a nice sunny but not overly hot day. Small cluttered apartments never seemed like a fun place to trip to me.

Re: *First time with LSD
If you've never actually tripped I suggest you don't get too overconfident going into this. If those 8-10 tabs are even middle-of-the-road potency wise you'll most likely be smashed and will achieve ego loss. How intense or overwhelming it's going to be isn't really going to be up to you in a very significant way.
Make sure you're in a place you're very comfortable..so I'd suggest avoiding the campus if at all possible due to the fact you aren't quite at home there yet. An outdoor setting somewhere peaceful where you can see the stars would be ideal but if you take this route be sure to bring someone to watch over you. Also, the fact that your friend has nothing to do at his pad doesn't make a fuck. When you're tripping you won't be bored..trust me. I would however avoid that area due to the fact that you said it's not very safe.
Best bet:
Outdoors somewhere secluded and peaceful
GREAT mindset throughout the day or two before the trip
Having a few benzos on hand in case you do completely freak out wouldn't hurt..but isn't required.
Stay safe dude.

Re: *First time with LSD
Thanks for the advice. I do have a cabin in the mountaints, if I do that I'd have to plan it out and delay the trip a few weeks because it's a 6 hour drive. I'd be happy to go to that length to get the most out of it. After reading a lot about it and reading a lot of Leary I was very dissapointed with my first two experiences, thats what tempted me to significantly raise the dose.
If 8-10 is risky for my first time what would you recommend, assuming the gel tabs are of decent quality? I'm really only looking for a powerful experience to try and benefit my psyche. I'm trying to become more self-aware of my behavior and the relationships I form with others, try for ego loss (I think I experienced it mildly with ecstacy) and shake up the reflexive nature of my thoughts.

Re: *First time with LSD
I'd say around 4 tabs of decent quality should be pretty nice for a first time. That way you'd be able to go again the next night if you really enjoyed yourself. If you're specifically going for the ego breakdown 6 or so would do you right.
Zeesersow is a great trip report about a dude that took (possibly) waay too much his first time. That was his view anyways and judging by what went on with him he may have overdone it a bit. In the end he still said he'd be tripping again though so it just goes to show that even a shattered ego can't scare sturdy minded people away from the world of possibilities LSD has to offer.

a cabin in the mountains seems great....
gel tabs tend to be a higher quality than blotter. 8-10 will be overwhelming in ways that you cant even percieve... i would buy a 10 strip or so, drop a couple of hits when you have some free time in a comfortable setting just to judge the potency... If 2 gel tabs cause an experience that believes that you could handle more, then by all means do more in a couple of weeks... you said it would be a few weeks before you could go up to the cabin anyways...
8-10 for a first time trip seems to be overestimating LSD alot.... It will be the most powerful thing you have ever put yourself through, it will shake you mentally to your core. Have someone there with you, preferably tripping. I don't like trip sitters, i like being around people who are experiencing the same sort of thing...
i would do 5-6 at most, that should be pretty mind blowing to say the least....
At doses that high your not going to have much control over what your mind wants to go through.... Good or bad your in it for the long haul.... Buy the ticket, take the ride....

Re: *First time with LSD
Ego loss should be taken with a grain of salt, you have no idea what this is like, its somewhat devastating if you aren't expecting it and even if you are, you can't be prepared well enough for what is going to happen to your mind when it happens. I've stopped doing LSD because of ego death, that's when I realized that LSD isn't fun and games, its a powerful tool.
Anyway, go to the cabin and bring a friend, you will most likely get bored if you don't have someone to at least talk to a little bit or someone to keep you from getting lost etc...
Good luck though, acid will blow you away.

I've never understood why people quit acid after experiencing this..of course I've never done anything without first knowing what I'm getting myself in to..always though that was kind of ignorant.

Re: *First time with LSD
Thanks again for the responses. I've been trying to disasociate from my ego for a while. I know this can be classified as a medical disorder but it's done out of conscious choice rather than intense depression or anxiety, I think LSD could really help me in the process. I have a peculiar outlook on life and believe my ego is a nuerotic anxiety drviven response to my ID impulses that has short term goals or end states aimed at security or satisfaction. It's constantly changing and adapting to the environmentand ultimately a transient characteristic, I don't think much of my or many peoples 'personality' in general. I guess it's still a safer bet to get a feel for it so I reduce the risk of going overboard.

No..I don't think I will. Some people just scare easier than others. That's the way things are. I've had as bad of an experience as I could have mentally and physically on drugs. The metal aspects have come directly from psychoactives while the health problems/drug disasters were from various other drugs.
Concerning psychedelics I've had the equivalent of my worst nightmares come to life before my eyes. I've had my ego ripped from me, shit upon and shattered into a million pieces. I've seen things while under the influence that left me shaken for weeks and some that still fuck with me to this day. Regardless of all of that I'm still a proud psychonaut and I believe I've become a better person because of the trials I've endured.
Quitting because you're freaked out by a substance isn't something to be ashamed of however and my statements should never be misinterpreted as boasting. It's just my way of saying that nothing will stop me from using these amazing tools to better myself in every way I possibly can. Once one understands that they aren't just toys to be used to get high that's when you begin to reap their true rewards. I am and always will be a proud psychonaut. There's nothing that's going to change that.

I understood exactly (well not exactly, But I knew that this sort of thing was possible on LSD) what I was getting into, that experience happened to me far into the trip, near the end. During that trip I really felt like that trip was a very bittersweet end to the frequency I was using psychedelics. But the ego death part was the icing on the cake. I didn't quit them because of the ego death, I had already made up my mind that it was time to slow down and pretty much quit.
I really felt like It was time for me to fall out of the drug culture to an extent and in the end I think this experience really shaped me to who I am now (spiritually and socially), I gained a kind of thirst for knowledge. I kind of decided to dedicate my time on reading and learning things outside of the realm of doing drugs. I had a very had couple weeks after that trip and I'm glad I made it through it, I feel like I'm a stronger minded person because of that.
I don't know, it was a very personal decision and that trip was both the best of tripping and the worst of tripping all within 13 hours.

I didn't quit because I am freaked out by it; and trust me I understand that you aren't boasting but there are some things that no one is prepared to understand.
I quit because it was just time for me to quit. I understood why perfectly too, and only I can understand why.
Hell, what I said isn't set in stone= If I were to come across it again and for free I'd gladly do it,
I'm just put off by it because of what happened to me for almost a year.
Two hours of talking to a very cool and non-ignorant psychologist fixed it though.
So take my advice in case what happened to me happens to you; get a psychologist and do not hesitate to see it if something is wrong the next few days. Don't ask totse about it, there's some good guessing that goes on here, but behind that none of us really know jackshit.

Re: *First time with LSD
8-10? First time? You'll lose your fucking shit no matter the enviroment, go nuts, have a hell of a trip, not remember it for three days.... but shit... You'll be fine in the morning, when you start to remember shit, you'll be amazed. And 8 hits of some pretty high power blotter is the most I've taken at once, and as a pretty seasoned psyconaught was still pretty balls to the fucking wall. Then again, I'm not big into the ego loss, it FREAKS ME THE FUCKING SHIT OUT MAN. Something about not knowing who or what I am makes me freak, but it's, of course, intense as hell, and I'm fine in the morning, and I learn alot... It's just usually not terribly enjoyable at the time....

Re: *First time with LSD
Has anyone here had several very strong trips and still not found them to be "life changing"? I mean, I've had complete ego death and loss of separation of myself from my surroundings and acid emphasized my already pre existing belief in how much your surrounding environment (including music, visual aesthetics, etc) can effect your mental and emotional state. It also emphasized my pre existing idea that everything "Just is", everything just flows. But I already knew those things. And it's not something that I carry with me on a day to day basis, like some great or spiritual knowledge has just come upon me or something. I just like doing acid because as I said it greatly magnifies those things, plus the visuals, accentuated sensations and euphoria are fucking awesome : )

Agreed.
Also, OP - if you did 2-3 hits of acid and didn't actually "trip", you're getting fucking shitty acid.
The first time I did it, I did 2 hits, and was watching The Doors play a concert on my floor (I had Strange Days playing in the background, and the floor acted almost as a TV screen).

Yeah I figured it was shitty acid, the strange thing was my friend who is much more experienced with it took 2 with me and he didn't trip hard but he was obviously feeling it way more then me.
For future reference if I were to plan taking a larger amount after I get a feel for it, could ecstacy act as a sort of safety net to increase the chances of a good trip by ensuring I'm in a good mood?

the couple times i've tried a candy flip (E and lsd), the E totally overpowered the trip. i was in a really great mood the entire time, but you may want to double up on the acid.
