Default retro cars

A recent essay in GQ came down hard on retros in general, and the PT Cruiser in particular. Personally, I love'em, especially the "new" T-bird. Takes me back tot he days when I was young and foolish.

I'd like to see a modern version of the outrageous 1959 Caddy, or the lovely 1953 Studebaker Sport Coupe.

Other opinions?

My view is this: supposed "remakes" of classics (cough *BMW mini* cough) should not be allowed. Everyone knows this is better than this.

(Yes, that picture makes my paint look dull. This makes it look a lot better.)

I think the new T-Birds are horrendous. They traded personality for aerodynamics and it looks awful. The new Mustangs have done a much better job of incorporating a retro look. The PT cruiser isn't bad. Chrysler seems to have a decent handle on the idea, as the Crossfire and Challenger have a bit of a nice retro vibe to 'em.

I'm not a fan.

Modern remakes of classic cars are a horrible shadow of the thing that we regard as great.

This isn't so bad, though.

The only modern remake of old cars that hasn't been a huge failure is the Mustang. Granted I don't like it but its a lot better than the shit some other companies are putting out.
