Exclamation What if 'Jesus' was an imposter?

You read in the bible that many will rise and try to deceive people into following a false profit...what makes you think that this so called jesus born from mary was anything more special than any other baby? Especially due to the fact that he was crucified by mortal humans, if he was so 'godlike' he would have an easier way to due away with 'the sins of mankind' than crucification. How is this taken seriously?

We aren't 100% sure of anything that went on more than a thousand years ago, what makes you think everyone nailed it on the head with following 'jesus'?

"Imposter"? What was he supposed to be posing as--himself?

Obviously, many aspects of the story are metaphorical, not to be taken literally, any more than the Buddhist tradition that the buddha took seven steps and spoke seven words when he was born. There is some textual evidence that the "cast the first stone" incident was fabricated. There is also some evidence--when you read the scripture in the original Greek--that he did not die on the cross and that Herod and/or Joseph of Aramithea knew this.

This is quibbling, however, and in no way invalidates any of the great ideas attributed to Jesus (who, BTW, was not known as Jesus until the 15th century), particularly the following:
1) Do unto others as you would have it done unto you;
2) the kingdom of God is within you; and
3) take no thought for the morrow, for the morrow will take thought for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

You did not look at this with the right mind set, therefore your answer didn't do much for me.

How do you know that this said 'jesus' that lived 2000 years ago isn't some guy who fooled a bunch of people into believing in him. He didn't do shit for the world when he supposedly came down, just changed afterlife

foolish sheep, I bet christians will be thought of like the ancient greeks with their mythology in the future.

Imposter of what? He was a man who believed in living a life of love, doing good deeds, and perpetuating positive thinking to the world.

He didn't even want a religion based on him, and even warns that men who do not follow his true teachings will use him as an idol to base a religion that will go against many of his teachings as a result. He didn't gain anything, and created a revolutionary new way of viewing and acting in life. His teachings can't lead you to bad things, unless you are ignoring his teachings and looking for absolutes from the bible to live by.

Jesus only preached truth and goodwill, and only the writers of the New testament deceived people. I myself think it would be a pretty nice place to live if more people thought like Jesus, and less like modern day Christians. What agenda could he possibly have in his teachings. It's pure. He even sacrificed himself knowingly so that his words would trumpet that much louder, cause he believed them that much. That's pretty awesome to allow yourself to be killed so that your words of Love would carry a greater weight and reach the corners of the earth.

Son of God or not, he has my respect. That's why I try and portray his teachings in my life, when I could easily be a horrible person and benefit heavily from it. I'd rather live in a world that Jesus was trying to create, than in the one that Christianity has created. I'm just doing my part, and I nor anyone else who lives a life of righteous truth should be admired or praised for it, as it's within all of our ability to do so.

If you want to praise Christ, be like him, cause that's what he instructed us to do.

There are people that believe that he was a human just like any other, that Mary was not a virgin, that the miracles attributed to him are either false or metaphorical, that he was a son of a human mother and father, not God, and that he was never put up on the cross in the first place.

God sends lots of people--I could name a dozen or two off the top of my head.

It's no big thang.

The idea that Jesus was the one and only original and unduplicated, last word on compassion and righteousness wisdom and shit IS Christian propaganda--but he himself NEVER said that.

He said the exact opposite, which you would know if you spent more time actually reading the Bible and less time dissing it.

So there. Now go and play quietly in your room until we call you for dinner.

well, obviously, since god is most likely non-existent, then jesus was more than likely an "imposter."

Who the hell cares? He was first of all a philosopher, and he had some neat ideas about life. Would anyone listen to him if he said he was an ordinary person? Probably not. So he had to make up a story to make sure his ideas make an impact.

Watch "Life of Brian", and you'll see it.

You need to read Romans in the bible, it explains the New Covenant between Man and God quite well.

ch5v8: God has here manifested his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
ch5v9: Much more then, being justified by his blood, we shall be delivered from wrath through him.
ch5v10: For if when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
ch5v11: And not only so, but we also glory in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the reconciliation.
ch6v4: Therefore, we are buried with him by baptism into death, so that as Jesus Christ rose from the dead by the glory of his Father (God), even so we also shall walk in a new life.

How can you be wise before God?

So the bible warns against false prophets for no reason then? If the bible goes to say...this guy is the right one, then why even need a warning?

God's chosen people don't believe Jesus was a legitimate prophet from God, so what makes you think the gentiles have the right of it?

Jesus is an imposter. The Jesus of churchianity is exactly that! As Arms said the name of the original character was not Jesus just like God's name is not Jehovah simply cause there where no J's in those old languages. The 'christian' church has made this character out to be something he was not. They say he was the son of god as if he was different, somehow he was uniquely god but not!!?? Whereas if one actually reads the bible( a rare thing amongst the churched!) you will find this gem:
Quote:
31Therefore, again, did the Jews take up stones that they may stone him;

32Jesus answered them, `Many good works did I shew you from my Father; because of which work of them do ye stone me?'

33The Jews answered him, saying, `For a good work we do not stone thee, but for evil speaking, and because thou, being a man, dost make thyself God.'

34Jesus answered them, `Is it not having been written in your law: I said, ye are gods?

35if them he did call gods unto whom the word of God came, (and the Writing is not able to be broken,)

36of him whom the Father did sanctify, and send to the world, do ye say -- Thou speakest evil, because I said, Son of God I am?

John 10 Youngs Literal Translation
I've used Youngs Translation even though it has archaic language cause it makes it very clear the jews wanted to stone him cause "thou, being a man, dost make thyself God". The character called Jesus refutes this using the jews own sacred writings and, in doing so, refutes any claim to godhood beyond that available to anyone(under jewish law).

John 4.25-26:
The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us." Then Jesus declared, "I who speak to you am he."

Basic Google search, I know dick all about christianity, but isn't this pretty much JC affirming that he is the messiah?

I have heard his voice and the Father's voice both. Christ asked me to confess Him in public. The Father called my name. Christ is LORD, and His return is soon. Repent, I beg of you! Turn away from the mouth of Hell where the LORD's holy Wrath is eternal and unrestrained. To all who repent of their faithlessness and ask for mercy, His Grace will fall as promised by Father and Son. I know not what your sins are and what your atonement would be, but His Grace begins a work that will be finished to completion, and in His Grace, His wisdom will supplement all ignorance and guide the faithful's steps true. I do not condemn you, for I don't have the power of holy judgment, but I beg of you to examine your life for emptiness and know that the void is meant to be filled with faith. Please, Brother, be thorough in your examination of Christ so that your ears and eyes may be opened by the Holy Spirit.

How can he be refuting his own holiness when he states himself to be sanctified? That is, not in the process of sanctification, but at the completion of it?

The Jews were hardened so that they too would know God's mercy through faith rather than works, for they themselves will be acquainted with their own faithlessness before they are convicted of Christ's Lordship so that they, as the Gentiles, may ask for the LORD's grace and see His eternal mercy.
