Im planning on saving most of the the money I make which is about maybe 1200-1400 monthly. Does anyone reccomend any branches that are depenable ? Free checking ? Suggestions about how to make my money grow. Im good at not spending money and budgeting , Im just new to banking and stuff. Comments welcome

Find a credit union in your area they are better than banks.

Re: Which bank branch do you reccomend?
For your terminology, a branch is a bank location, not a particular institution.

To be more specific, I reccomend sticking it in notice accounts or fixed bonds if you want to play it safe. Also they have some decent high monthly saver accounts.

Washington Mutual already failed.
Which means that you fail.

Yes, but what does that really mean these days? It's not like the bank failed and everyone's money was lost and a bunch of people cried. Washington Mutual was just bought out by Chase. The government insures everyone's money up to $100,000 per account, and I guess they're talking about doubling that number. And I don't think the OP is going to reach anywhere near $100k any time soon, and if he does, he wouldn't fucking have it all in his checking account.
OP, just find a bank that has convenient locations for you. For me, that was Chase because they're fucking everywhere, both in my hometown and in the city where I go to college. They have free checking as long as you have direct deposit with your employer, or are a full time student. Otherwise, it's like $6/month charge, I believe, which blows. But being a student, I haven't had to pay that yet. The minimum balance you need to have to avoid other gay fees is $300. They also have a nice online thing set up. I have a checking account, savings account, and my Visa through them and it's pretty simple to make transfers and payments all on their website.

You're right, people's money wasn't "lost," as long as they were under the insured limit. However, it reveals that the bank itself is poorly managed and made stupid decisions as it relates to approving people (largely minorities, under pressure from the federal government) for loans that they really didn't qualify for.
I bank with a regional bank (Whitney National). While not having access to free ATMs around the country when I travel for work is an annoyance, there is no minimum balance on my checking account, and the checking is free. Checking your balance, etc. online is also easy.
Only fools pay for checking these days.

Re: Which bank branch do you reccomend?
Shop around. Call up some banks, go in and get their pamphlets, see what they have to offer. Ask for specials.
Some things to look for:
- Interest rates
- Minimum balance
- Fees
- Amenities, such as online banking, online bill pay, debit cards, mobile banking, stuff like that and see if they're free.
- How much checks cost
- Overdraft coverage and fees
- ATM locations
- etc...
I would say bank at my bank, but we're only a very local bank. We have a free checking account that has no minimum balance, 4.51% APY, ATM fees refunded, free online banking, bill pay, debit card, mobile banking, and other stuff, and $1000 overdraft protection. The only thing you have to pay for with this account is checks, but that's only 12 dollars or something per box. Not too shabby.
But, yeah, just shop around and see what you like about which banks and see how you feel when you walk inside - if you like the atmosphere.

Re: Which bank branch do you reccomend?
Don't quote me, but Bank of America seems to be the most stable commercial outfit around. FDIC and Visa check cards; all I really care about.

And what do you base this on? It appears that the only things that you are using as a basis for your claim are the FDIC, which is an independent federal government insurance agency/corporation who backs deposits of basically all national banks up to a certain amount (currently $250,000 per beneficiary), not just Bank of America, and a small service that Visa offers, who is an entirely separate credit company. Yes, BOA has made a few very substantial mergers and acquisitions, but they are also picking up a lot of bad debt. I'm not saying that they aren't stable, but figure out what you're talking about before you say something like, "I think that big bank is best because they got FDIC and debit cards."
By the way, if you've kept up with anything, you'll realize that size isn't always the best thing.
