I miss greasy-spoon breakfasts...
Made on a flat top in a little home-town joint, not this Denny's and Village Inn imitation crap.
In the hometown (a community of 1500 people in rural Wyoming), there was a joint that had what they jokingly called the Bottle of Cholesterol (it was listed on the menu as the Breakfast Platter). The placed closed down when I was sixteen, but if I recall, it consisted of...
*3 Eggs Any Style
*3 Sausage Links
*3 Strips of Bacon (and this was reasonably thick, none of that thin crap you get in the store)
*Hash browns or home fries
*Three slices of toast (White, wheat, sourdough, or rye)
*Add coffee for an extra $.30 (which usually was $.50 for a bottomless cup)
I never ate it, but I knew a lot of people who did. That whole thing, which would likely be a ridiculous amount of money at a chain, was $5.75 at this joint.
I was always a fan of two eggs over easy, a ham steak, and hash browns, personally. Total cost at that joint and the place I worked? $4.00.
Anyone else have similar nostalgia trips about joints that serve a legit homey breakfast without having to tell us how "homestyle" it is and screw it up by marginalizing it?

Re: I miss greasy-spoon breakfasts...
I live in a town of about 22,000 that used to have many greasy-spoon joints. Unfortunately the last one which was true to the type shut down two or three years ago, and I have a sinking feeling that before too long the few remaining family-owned restaurants will go the way of the local greasy spoon.
Sure wish I could go back and eat there, though.

This is the go-to breakfast spot in my hometown.

There's also a Husky truckstop that offers quite the meal for a reasonable price.

Greasy spoon breakfasts are a great way to start off your day. They're just so delicious.
There's quite a few chains around here but there are still some Mom & Pop breakfast places which hook it up quite generously.

I wouldn't eat that way every day, man. When I worked on the ranch several summers ago, yes, I did, but now that sort of thing would be an occasional indulgence.
Everything in moderation...including moderation itself.

I love ordering those. If I'm hungry that is.
But over here its minus the black pudding and they don't really do the baked beans and I generally get a coffee instead of tea because I never order tea when I'm out.
If I'm not so hungry I'll just get eggs benedict.

Re: I miss greasy-spoon breakfasts...
Mmmm that sounds pretty fuckin good. Good thing im not a nutritionist, or i'dve just had a heart attack just looking at it
The bacon we get here is ~3mm thick, and crisps up pretty well in the grill, but the stuff at mcdonalds or hungry jacks(burger king) is like .5mm.......
Sucks how they went out of business, wouldve been a good place to eat on a sunday morning after a late night partying.

Most Irish pubs have greeasy spoon stuff like this, I went to a great one in key west that had an Irish breakfast menu item, but alas the true hoem town country kitchen doesnt seem to exist anymore.
