How to Not Be a Loser
First thing to understand is: Be yourself.
A lot of people misinterpret "be yourself" to mean that you are perfectly socially acceptable in your current state. That's obviously not true for most people. Social skills are just like any other skills: sometimes you need improvement. So, if you are bad in social settings, don't think you should just be satisfied with that. Figure out your weak points and work on them, because being sociable is the only universal game on the planet. If you are bad at football, you practice. Likewise, don't feel bad for practicing your social skills. The main truth in "be yourself" is the idea that you should be confident in yourself. Don't be insecure or shy about your interests (assuming your interests aren't too bizarre and taboo), and don't be insecure about yourself.
The next most important thing is confident body language, and it's basically an extension of the "be yourself" concept. You can find tons of detailed articles about this online, so I'll just keep it simple: stand up tall (shoulders relaxed, look to the horizon when you walk), remind yourself to smile (not exaggerated, but a relaxed smile), and relax. It's easy to slip from "relaxed" to "apathetic", so you have to be careful: Your goal is to have fun (always), so keep that in mind.
I'm about to leave, so I'll update this again later, but...yeah.
And something to keep in mind when you're out at a party or club or bar and you feel a bit awkward: Just imagine that you're a celebrity. Seriously. You might be thinking "God, I feel so awkward...what the fuck am I supposed to be doing?" Well, just ask yourself, "How would Brad Pitt be acting if he were mingling at a party?". He wouldn't be staring around nervously, trying to find someone to approach...he'd be relaxed and having a good time.
