Ok, so my buddy just stopped by and gave me 5 Amitriptyline HCl......they are ten mg a peice. He said that they are antidepressents but that they will mess me up, before i take them i wanted to ask my fellow Totse member if they have ever had any run in's with the shit and if it actually dose anything.........thanks!

It's a tricyclic anti-depressant that is often used off-label for problems sleeping and as an aid in certain types of pain when used in conjunction with other medications.

Obviously, as it is used for sleep, it has sedative properties. For some (too many) people, that immediately means it must be recreational. It's not. Here (http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Pharms_Amitriptyline.shtml) are some experience reports from Erowid, anyways.

I've taken it for sleep before and it seems to work fairly well-- this was in anywhere from 50 mg to 100 mg doses. You said you have 10 mg tablets; that's an extremely low dose, from what I've gathered.

Didn't make me feel dead-weight tired the way some sleep aids do but definitely made getting to bed easier than it would've been without it. Can't say I ever got a "high" feeling from it, but then again, I never bothered to try.

Ever taken Trazodone? It's somewhat similar to that-- a little less sedating, I'd say.

thanks man i wont be taking them.....atleast not now at 130 in the afternoon. Yeah i was prescribed Trazadone for a couple of years.....damn things used to give me crazy mood swings.

Same here. I don't like Trazadone at all. I've also been given Amitriptaline and agree totally with PoC. The fact that they're even used to help someone sleep is baffling to me. I doubt it'd put an 90 year old stoner grannie to sleep.

hang on to them for when you can't sleep. They are a pretty decent sleep aid if you combine them with benadryl. Your friend is an idiot, kick him in the balls and tell him to read a book.

It can affect your memory just after taking them, you forget small stuff.
Like if you read a book after taking them, & then read it again the next day, there will be bits you don't remember reading.
& after taking them for a week, your sex drive just drops out, no intrest in sex & you stop thinking about it.

They are not a recreational drug at all.

I was/am prescribed this in pain management to help me sleep and let me tell you it doesnt do shit...although my bf seems to think it works but also am on 10mg and I took anywhere from 5-46 of them at once before...the experience with 46 was mind numbing I was falling out...dont remember ne thing it was like I blacked out altho i was awake just not aware...yep I didnt sleep even with 46 10mgs .... IMO it does kinda help with anxiety if you take a couple...

It's sedative properties are interesting. I've had strange semi-conscious dreams when taking extreme amounts of this medication, followed by a day or more of solid sleep. I deem them mildly interesting, but they're sure no opiate.
