Re: Drinking and Mono?
If you drink 1 beer while you have mono it's like you drank 2 beers. If you drink 2 it's like you had 5 beers. 3 beers and its like you had 10. 4 beers its like you had 17, and 5 beers can be fatal.

Truth?
If so, quite convenient as I may be coming down with mono and only have 5 beers.

It's true. The formula for calqulation equivilant alchohal effectiveness in people with mono is defined by the equation L=x^2 + 1
You square the number of drinks plus 1.

Fuck them if they wan't I'll share, the more the merrier.
Anyways I was hoping somebody had some experience, the doctor said that I shouldn't drink for 6 or so weeks to begin with. I'm taking another blood sample in a month or so to see if the virus has left my body.
The thing is that I feel pretty fine, I don't feel anything worse than perhaps a very weak cold.

Re: Drinking and Mono?
haha truebudsmoker
anyway theres probably no difference seeing that mono (and most other diseases) dont effect GABA or or the level of stimulation of the CNS.
so there will probably be no difference, or adverse effects, youll probably even feel a temporary loss of many of your symptoms.
anyway, if youre still a bit nervous about it, just take it slow and figure it out yourself.

Re: Drinking and Mono?
I was thinking more along the lines of liver failure and such, seeing how the virus attacks your organs according to my doctor.

Re: Drinking and Mono?
I don't know anything about mono and organ failure, but it probably won't be good for your immune system, since it's currently battling an infection, and it would add additional stress, thus maybe (imo likely, but I'm not any kind of medical professional) lead to a longer recovery, since ethanol is something of a toxin and our bodies don't take too kindly to it even on the best of days. I'm not saying you shouldn't drink, but it might be better to wait. Granted, being sick sucks, and I'd probably want to get fucked up, too... so I do understand the urge. Any time I'm sick and stuck at home, I want to do drugs way more than normal, so I'm able to at least feel decent. Still, it may not be the best thing to do.
Maybe take lots of vitamin C. This isn't related to your question, but combating infections in general. It's a good water soluble antioxidant that's cheap as fuck. Infections tend to cause more stress or oxidative damage to our cells, etc. I heard somewhere that when you're sick you can easily take 8 grams of vitamin C a day. It's really difficult to OD on, and your body will make use of it, especially when sick, since your biology is put under a bit more stress than normal.
Also, if you worry about drinking and liver failure in general, milk thistle extract is good for liver protection, and many people incorporate it into their drinking habits, whether they're sick or not, it just seems like a wise thing to do. Though I'm not much of a drinker, so I can't vouch for it personally, but I'd perhaps look into it if worried about liver health related to drinking, in general. I think Taurine (an amino acid good for a whole host of things, found in eggs and meats, but also available as a nutritional supplement) is also supposed to be good for alcohol related toxicity. It's a nonessential amino acid, meaning our bodies are quite capable of producing it from other amino acids within our diet. Supplementing it seems to offer a whole bunch of advantages, though. One of which I read about relating to diminishing hangovers.
Sorry I can't be of more help. I'd maybe ask your doctor, but perhaps phrase it in a bit more moderate of a way, so your doctor doesn't feel like he's giving you the 'okay' to booze it up while you're sick. Maybe something like "I had a couple of beers the other day, but then I remembered what you said about organ failure, and I became worried that I might have done myself some damage." He's likely to give you an honest answer. I don't think doctors like making people freak out unnecessarily, though they do like playing on the safe side, and warning people of some dangers perhaps more than is necessary (I guess it's their job?) so if you're good to drink, and the 'damage' has assumably already been done (due to how the question was phrased), he probably won't say something like "You're fucked, sign up for a liver transplant lolz." If anything he's likely to be more frank/honest, to assuage your concerns.

Re: Drinking and Mono?
I was given mono by my girlfriend about 2 1/2 years ago. I had an extremely bad case and my throat almost closed shut and had sore throats pop up months after it was over.
I got drunk literally like 5 months after I had it and it messed me up for like a month. It was almost a week long hangover and I felt twice as tired as normal for the rest of the month.
Almost a year later and I drank heavily one week while working out on creatine, arginine, etc. and I woke up in extreme pain the next day and the pain has never gone away. I've had it for a year and the doctors are still trying to find whats up with me. Not saying that this happens very often, but I've never quite felt the same after getting mono, and I'm always thinking about blowing my brains out with this testicle, intestinal, lower back pain I have.
