Got ticket for parking motorcycle in vehicle parking spot (compact) in parking lot
I was just wondering... is it illegal to park your bike in designated car parking spots (not that there was a sign that said 'CARS ONLY'... there was a designated motorcycle area but it was full, I even took a picture). I'm pretty sure according to california law it is perfectly legal... but I definitely got a ticket.
This was in Santa Cruz, California btw.

Re: Got ticket for parking motorcycle in vehicle parking spot (compact) in parking lot
I would probably argue this one. Just because motorcycles have a designated parking area, doesn't mean they can't be parked anywhere else. It just means other vehicles can't park in the motorcycle parking. That is, unless otherwise stated, which you said it wasn't. You might want to look up the specific violation written on the ticket and see if you can't find some more information on this. Seems pretty shady to me, like the ticketing officer just decided to slap you with it because they doubted you would contest/pay it.
Don't motorcycles fall under "compact" vehicle any way? I could be wrong but I thought they did.

I've already contested the ticket... still waiting for a response (other than 'The SC Police has received your complaint' email). It has been three or four days and I assume they get thousands of these contests so I'm not holding my breath.

You received a ticket for it. Do they give tickets out for doing things that aren't illegal? You're a jerk too for parking your bike like that. Every time I see some faggot's bike taking up a parking spot, I fight the urge to kick it over, tether it securely to my car and drag it out of the way so I can park there.
*If you meant bicycle, then I'm not as upset with you; people who drive motorcycles are jerks.

Fuck you cockturtle. It was a five story parking lot and there is plenty of car parking, but only enough room for about 20 motorcycles (if they park perfectly). How are people who ride motorcycles jerks?

^ because they mock cockturtle at how much faster they go then his piece of shit 500cc car.
Im sure it's perfectly legal if there was no other "bike only" places. Motor bike is 2 wheels, car is 4......takes up the same space. Should be giving you a medal for saving space.

Re: Got ticket for parking motorcycle in vehicle parking spot (compact) in parking lot
I don't see a problem with what you have done, well not here in NZ anyway.
I have parked a car & trailer on two parking spots at the same time & never had a problem, just put money in both meters.
Though just last week I saw a motorbike get a $40 ticket for parking on a footpath (in a place where no one could actually walk mind you)
Thought that it was a bit rough untill I saw a designated motorcycle parking spot (free!) 1/2 a block away.

Re: Got ticket for parking motorcycle in vehicle parking spot (compact) in parking lot
Great... they sent back a the ticket review with nothing written on it except for the checkmark in the box which said "fine upheld." I sort of expected it to be a waste of time, anyways... as if they're going to read these complaints.

Yeah Kleenex. Just pretend that instead of a parking ticket, you got a medal for saving space. You're a hero.

That sux! Try & find out the law on the reason it got upheld.
Like if you parked a car in a motorcycle spot it would be a different matter.
But a motorcycle is a vehicle & you parked it in a vehicle spot & thats what yah supposed to do isin't it?

Re: Got ticket for parking motorcycle in vehicle parking spot (compact) in parking lot
Was it in public parking or private?
University?
I know in most places it's legal to take up 2 spaces.
Why should a motorcyclist be subjected to less parking rights?
I have seen some asshole with a Porsche park in the middle of 2 parking spots just to make sure someone doesn't scratch it with their door.

If someone did that I would park about 2 inches away from their drivers side door.

He probably had fair cause for it. I know someone with a bentley, and whenever he parks it in public it gets keyed, scratched, spat on and kicked by passer by's.
people get jealous.
