Default How has the economic recession affected Drug Dealers?

Do you guys know of any dealers who are having a tough time keeping up their lifestyle in these times? Do they have to look for legitimate jobs? Or is the recession just making people flock to drugs and dealers are reaping the benefits?

Just wondering...

Don't think dealing would be effected at all by the economic troubles you Americans face, no doubt when the depression strikes all the dealers will have A LOT more customers.

shit you beat me to this thread... haha

Ive been lookin around my town and havent found any signs. However im not involved in the coke game or the heroin/opium game. My guess is those would be the most affected. Just because of the money involved, and what it takes for them to travel to the US.

Hopefully some ppl more involved in that niche could shed some light...

I cant think of any dealer i know that is intelligent enough to grasp the current situation anyways, if they even know whats goin on. im sure other ppl are different tho.

the black market functions fairly independently from the white market...

the drug market is an economy that never crashes... certain drugs go in and out of popularity over time but there will always be people wanting to get high... the only ones really effected would be the coke addicted stock trader who lost his fortune and can no longer afford coke...

I myself have not noticed any effects of the economic injury on my small town's drug market. If anything I actually have noticed what seems to be a lot of weed circulating with a few dealers even selling a few bucks cheaper than ever before, which is of course historical news for this island.

Realistically though, this town probably wont be affected until deep into winter seeing as I live in a seasonal town fueled by international tourism.

I think that the drug economy shouldn't be hurting too bad though all together in the long run. My guess is that possibly Heroin, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine might be hurting the worst.

Cocaine and Heroin might go down hill because our government is active in a large portion of that trade, or at least they used to be. :p

And, Methamphetamine I would think might dwindle down only due to a lack of Ephederine/ pseudeoephederine, in American stores and markets.

My guess is that Marijuana, and mushrooms will see a rise as more pharmaceutical based drugs lose their availability in common markets.

Of course I could be totally wrong about all this, who knows though, I truly think this day and age we live in is going to be exciting to say the least and possibly horrible in almost every aspect.

Also, The white market and the black market will always be connected, maybe not directly and it might depend on what kind of items you're looking for, but a lot of the black market is fueled directly by the white market.

Also, I think that with troubled times, all drug use increases.

The effect on the drug dealer would be relative to the amount of the recession, but let's talk worst-case scenario.

There would be a shortage of legitimate cash flow, so in order to support their families some individuals might take up some illicit form of making money. This would then increase the supply of the drugs. What must be taken into account, though, is that these larger orders take more time to fill. The drug supply lines are not well developed enough to support the newly recession-imposed demand, so initially prices would increase. As supply increased, though, prices would lower. Eventually things would even out and prices would be forced to decrease. The dealer's game would be then to move high volumes at lower cost, like Wal-Mart. This would be harder though, because there would be an increasing number of dealers, with the increasing supplies of drugs. In other words: there's an initial spike in the price and demand and there's more product being sold, but it's at lower prices, and you have more competitors.

I don't think its the economy that has an effect on the price of Meth here in Az, but 1.5yrs ago you could get a zip of some bomb shit for $500-600 across the state. I was clean for almost a year, been back for a few months. An Oz now is anywheres from $900-1200+. Shits far from consistant. Living 15min from Mex, prices are not much cheaper and a Mex. Oz is 25g, then u gotta figure out how to get it back across. Really doesn't matter, I'm already sick of the shit. Just not fun like it used to be...I think I've finally out grown this nasty habit.

Has anyone noticed the economy effecting jail/prison sentencing? Gov being strict as fuck trying to get as much $$$ as possible?

You do know that it costs money to put people in jail right? The government would actually be spending more money by giving longer sentences. If there is any relationship(not probable), it is the opposite of what you posted.

Yes, I agree. America's middle class will shift more to the illicit drug market, and at the same time the government will be distracted, under fire to fix the economy. They simply won't have the funds to wage America's "War on Drugs" as before. That, coupled with the increase in the drug market overall, would be too much for the justice system to contend with.

Makes sense. I also meant (but did not write) judges pushing for strict/heavy fines, whether for felonies or mis's.
