Re: career in computer programing
Check the other two-hundred-million threads that have already been made on the same subject. But as usual it depends on what you're going to be programming but in general => Python. And a Computer Science degree will help for most companies.

Allright thanks, but one of my friends said that there is no more money in it, is that true?

Depends, what you're doing but I would say the average is around 60 grand USD with the bottom being around 35 grand and the top being 100 grand.

Python is great, they have some really basic guides on the internet, I taught myself some really basic things.

I thought it was basically one category, i guess not. So what genres of computer programing are there?

Obviously there are people that make a shit ton more than that, and there's also programmer's who make a hell of a lot less than the low I wrote. But I'm staying within approximately 2 standard deviations.

The job I'll be going for when I finish my degree and 5 years banking experience pays an awful lot, between £80k - £120k a year, although don't expect anything unless you're committed to learning. I haven't as of yet learned Python, but the general consensus is indeed that it's the easiest to start with. Look into what you want to do in the programming industry, find out what languages you need to learn and put in the effort. Also, you should have put this in 'Hello World'.

Making money from computer programming has everything to do with who's paying you to write code, what kind of code you're writing, how well you write code, whether or not your code is mission-critical and what applications your code has for your employer.
Bigger employer, more complex code, good code, important code and code that makes your employer money are all examples of how to make money in computer programming. And yes, you definitely need a Computer Science degree; you would also be better off going ahead and getting a BS rather than a BA.
