Chances of getting addicted?
SWIM did a gram of speed about 8 months ago. Everything went fine, no bad reactions, and hasn't done any since. Now he wants to try it again, what are the chances of addiction taking place? This might be a stupid question, but arsed getting hooked.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
If you have the money, it dosn't really matter if you get addicted. But I would say do it and keep it for special occasions.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
Addiction is a series of choices. Just pay attention to your use and you should be alright. Unless you just have really poor impulse control.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
Addiction is not based around dosage/frequency of said drug. Of course those two things play a part in it, but it's not like there's some magical number to be consumed in a time frame that draws the line between user and addict.
Just like you hear about those people who turn into fiends off their first line of blow or bag of dope. Yeah, it does, and CAN happen, but in situations like that I guarantee you they had some other shit going on under the surface psychologically.
You obviously didn't wig out and empty your bank account into the dealer's hands with your first gram eight months ago, so unless you've had some serious shit go down with your mentality since then, I doubt doing it again is going to lead you to skid-row status.

I agree with this.
All the people who I've seen addicted to some kind of substance usually don't weigh consequences very well (or at all). They simply pop a pill, snort a line, they don't give a fuck what the outcome will be because self-gratification overrides all other priorities. If they seem self-conscious about their addiction, I guess it's just the guilt that makes them talk shit.

Haha, true, but if they can pay phone bills & haven't sold their computers, they can't be THAT addicted eh lol.
Anyway, they're likely to have some good advice, even if it has to be taken with a grain of salt.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
First of all SWIM is useless and makes you look like a fool.
Second, you don't get addicted to speed. You may get mentally addicted, but that isn't real addiction: Your body doesn't go through hell if you don't have the drug.

I had a gram a day heroin addiction and a 1/4g meth habit for many years and I still held down I good paying job, paid my bills and lived on my own.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
addicted doesn't mean broke. going from the mental side [ie: not dependency] yea whatever turns you on can get you addicted, kinda like gambling...
theres no odds, your trying to justify it though so it sounds like you already think you are. why kid yourself, you wanna get gaked out and clean your room, write your term papers, and rebuild your car after taking it apart...

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
Some health advice I can give you is : "no more than once every 2 months"
It helps give you a chance to recover and avoid addiction.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
No you wont get addicted if you did it 8 months ago and you dont do it a lot in a short period of time...unless of course you have an addictive personality

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
Addiction tend to happen when you think, "oh one more time this month wont be bad" and then "just one more time this week", then "once a day isn't so bad" then "oh hey im out of money, lets sell of anything of value i can find"...
if you have the will power to moderate usage to the occasional thing addiction is much less likely. I do oxy once every 2-3 months, i crave it the next few days after, which lets me know that i have to watch myself.

So you deny the existence of meth addicts? You probably don't believe in crack addicts either. Mental addiction, physical addiction; it all has the same outcome. Withdrawals are a TINY problem compared to the loss of your livelihood. It's a lot easier to kick heroin than it is to get back your life savings.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
Um, .25 gram of meth isn't SHIT. When you party with the big boys you drop a half in that bone just to get started. Hell, my brother does .25 minimum for IV. Clean shit too. But seriously, .25 a day isn't shit.

Are you talking to me? I never called him a meth addict, I was just responding to his statement that you can't get addicted to meth.

Re: Chances of getting addicted?
Personally, the first time I used Meth, I became addicted to it. I was 16, and within days, I completely withdrew from society. I don't put all the blame on drugs, I was dealing with severe PTSD, two suicide attempts and the loss of an extremely important friend. But the drugs were an easy way of escapism, contributed to me becoming an emotional wreck and being sent to this reform school in Maine.
I haven't used in two years, but now that I'm on-track with my life, I don't think it will be too problematic

I think you're confusing addiction and dependence.
