Re: evolution and theism
As I (and many others) use the term, yes.
God is not an entity which stands apart from creation, but creation itself--this includes all of us.

Re: evolution and theism
My answer depends what you mean.
If you mean an anthropomorphized conception of God, the "story" of God, then I would say yes this story and its meaning can change over the years as it gets retold and edited generation after generation.
If you mean the infinite all - as in, "Does God (the infinite all) change over time as a result of Gods environment?" - then I would say no. God is the environment, God is the time, God is the absolute. All change is already present within God.
Maybe I could consider my limited experience of "this moment" changing into my limited experience of "that moment" as Gods evolution from my relative and limited perspective ... but I believe that from an absolute perspective there would appear to be no change at all, the infinite is the infinite.

Re: evolution and theism
Evolution isn't just "change." It is a biological term, having to do with genes, mutation, etc. So the question is: do I think god, if such an entity existed, would have genes? Uhm, no.

well shit if all were[youre] gonna do is sit here and define shit until it has lost meaning then we[you] will never be able to comprehend the evolution of a supernatural entity.
im sayin, shit people always spout, well, who created god? blah blah again and again. i offered an alternative. Can the god you don't believe in evolve from and into something you cant comprehend. i know i cant comprehend it but its a bitch to think about.

Re: evolution and theism
If you believe in the Christian Bible..........then the Christian God clearly evolved from an intolerant, jealous, angry, wrathful, vengeful God..........into a God of forgiveness, benevolence, love, and tolerance.
Also considering that this God is infallible, and omni-everything, his personality evolving like this, is illogical.
------
Religious dogma has evolved for all religions, spinning of various denominations.
Though to be fair, in the corporate world (that religion does exist in) this is simply called setting up franchises, and not evolution.

Re: evolution and theism
well lets assume for a second all religions are culture specific and all adhere to the same basic morals, principles, and god. now lets say this god was less because there was less of an infinity, we see the universe expand, we do not know why. perhaps god's "thoughts" seep down from higher dimensions and are perceived as matter.
i did not quite mean genetic evolution. perhaps grow is a better word. But, when you see a human child at age 5 it cannot be denied he is human and then again seeing the same being at 50. The 50 year old obviously different but still one same this progressing, growing, evolving sort of over time.
god is real ignorant people

Re: evolution and theism
Well, evolution requires that there is an environment which can influence the creature any way. This gets kind of hectic when creatures start creating their own environments. Also, if there is only one constant creature the question of evolution becomes HOW DOES A PERSONALITY WITHSTAND ALL THAT FUCKING TIME!?

Re: evolution and theism
The Catholic church is constantly changing its views on everything and whatnot, so of course God is evolving. I mean, 5000 years ago condoms didn't exist. Now that they do, God has to have an opinion on them of course. And God say's; THEY SUCK. I agree with God. Condoms indeed do suck.

Re: evolution and theism
If the cosmological argument is to be believed, God is the uncaused cause and is out with our universe, as everything in it must be caused by something and an infinite regress of causes is impossible. God is complete so evolution is unecessary.

So.... God is fate through science and the inevitable progression of time?

I'm stoned. What does that mean? What does any of this mean? Can anyone define god for me?

Wrong. He is still intolerant, jealous, wrathful, and vengeful. And also, in the OT, he was also forgiving, benevolent, loving, and tolerant. What you miss in the Bible is that God is holy, and loves all righteousness and earnest seeking of Him, but is absolutely intolerant of sin itself, and carries great prejudice and wrath against unrepentant sin. In the NT, it is the sacrifice of His son, Yeshua, as a sign and symbol of God's willingness to forgive any who repents; it is not that the repentant were damned in the OT, it is that man had strayed so far as to think God was nothing but wrath.
It's as if man were a child that so disobeyed their parents, that in the parents' attempt to discipline their child, the child falsely comes to believe that they are unloved, when truthfully, they are being corrected as harshly as their folly warrants. It is not until the parent then shows their child a physical display of the love that drove their corrections that the child is able to understand that they are, and always have been loved.
Now, the God that is often preached in Christian churches today is just one of pure love, forgiveness, and so on...but they rarely preach of God's discipline. They often preach a lie by omission; attempting to carry a large number of attendants to fill their coffers rather than attempting to carry true and deep faith. What transformation of being comes about without recognizing one's need for it? Who will walk into the flames of tribulation to build their character up when they think their broken soul pleases God as it is? Who will let God transform him both by faith and by works when he thinks that his shallow knowledge of God's greatest display of love is faith?

Re: evolution and theism
Perceptions and ideas about god can change, but if god exists, than it cannot possibly evolve since it is outside of nature
