Cool Dual Monitors a good benefit or no?

I know you have to disable SLI, but thats not a problem I just want to know if I should or not...

I do quite a bit of gaming, and i do get on chat programs. Xfire, and usually sitting in EVGA online chat.

Unless you find yourself constantly alt-tabbing between windows then there is not much practical use for a second monitor. Or you want to watch a video/film fullscreen on one monitor while you do work on the other.

However dual screens does look cool and will set you apart from the average nerd when people see your setup.

If either of those are worth the cost of a monitor, constantly rebooting to turn SLI/second monitor on/off and extra desk space used up then go for it.

Like I said in that other thread, you may not necessarily need to reboot everytime, give it a try. My cards are slightly older 8600GT's and it lets me disable/enable one out of about ten times I try without rebooting, sometimes it lets me enable but not disable without rebooting, sometimes vice versa, it seems to be quite random. I know Nvidia are probably going to (or at least trying to) fix this with the 18x.xx series drivers due to be released soon-ish.

I used to have three monitors, all CRTs too, two 15s and a 19, took up my entire desk lol.

It looks a lot more professional/slick if all the screens are the same size, even more so if the same make/model. I have two 19" LCDs but it looks silly because one is widescreen and one isn't.

It all depends on your usage. It's a pain to have the screen stretched on an FPS, because your shooting right between the monitors. However, I know somebody with 11 monitors, but he uses them all, being a stock broker.

im going to dual monitor as im constantly gaming and talking and its jsut a pain to either use in game chat systems or to alt and tab constantly ..

but my setup would just be for gaming on one and online surfing on the other .

I love having dual monitors, it makes multitasking a hell of a lot easier! I also game, so I have to disable SLI every time I want to use both monitors if I was previously gaming heavily. With my drivers though, I don't have to reboot every time. I don't know why, but the older nVidia drivers don't make you reboot your computer every time you switch.

Disabling/Enabling doesn't make me reboot either. I might go ahead and get another 22" widescreen, if I like it being dual display i will keep it. If not... I guess I have another reason to build another computer
