Default psychodelics and potentially unstable people...

i know that no one can give a definite answer on this, im just looking for generalities or something to calm my nerves. my girlfriend wants to try mushrooms. now, this isnt a big deal to most people, but im not positive she is emotionally or psychologically mature enough to handle this kind of stuff. i wouldnt say she is crazy, but i definitely think there is potential for something bad to happen. my main worry is that she will trip and it will bring up some psychological problem and she basically wont sober up. is this scenario at all realistic, or is that just a myth? she also wants to do it alone, which i told her is a horrible idea, but i think she is willing to let me sit for her.

another worry of mine is that her intentions in trying this arent at all right. i used to be a psychonaut (until recently; ive quit drugs) and she has decided that she wants to trip to better understand me. maybe its just me, but that sounds ridiculous.

thoughts?

everyone has problems and therefore everyone who does mushrooms has problems.

i have problems ,i do shrooms, i have a great time, I've had like 2 bad trips in my entire life. I love getting fucked up so much it's very hard for me to have a bad trip.

girls suck at drugs, they trip out and go crazy, they're bron that way, overanalysing/thinking too much, it's the female way.

anyway, point is most people that do drugs are unstable. do shrooms with her don't be too cautious/think too much about it because THAT is what's going to ruin it.

I would just convince her to take a lower dose (.5 of an eighth) and let her trip by herself for the first. Tell her that if she needs help or something that you will be on call, just makes sure she knows this and let her do her thing. Or you could stay with her to make sure she doesn't get into trouble...your call, I think a low dose of shrooms shouldn't effect her permanently.

I would say don't do it then.

Let her try Salvia.

Granted it is a lot different from acid or shrooms, but it is close enough that you can get a feel for how she will react to it. And since it only lasts a few minutes, if it goes bad it is easier to wait it out.

no salvia is nothing like shrooms or acid and doesn't prepare you for shit

it's a waste of money, it isn't fun and it makes you freak out. Salvia's gonna give her a negative first impression of psychedelics. I've seen this happen to many times before.

Just go with the shrooms man. Make it a sunny day.

I don't know, I think long term effects from salvia could be more of an issue than with a low dose of mushrooms. Especially since salvia can be such a mind fuck right of the bat.

Of course it might have long lasting effects with a high dose, but that's why i'm suggesting that you start her off with a low dose and ease her into the experience, if she feels she is comfortable to do more, do more at a later date...

it doesn't seem like she is really doing it for the wrong reasons.... understanding is one of the better reasons, and it might give her more of a window into your life that you both can relate to given your previous psych usage....

maybe start her out at a moderate 2 gram or so dose, girls tend to be pretty emotional as it is, psychs tend to intensify emotions.... just see how she handles a light-moderate trip and go on from there....

we all have problems, if anything psychs have made me feel better and more comfortable about my life... Ever since i started using them ive been a much less depressed individual, and felt ive grown closer to those that ive done them with... And even though you have quit drugs, i would consider tripping with her the first time. For most people its nice to have someone experiencing the same thing they are, sober individuals just don't seem to get it.

Most people feel changed after their first psych experience, especially if it is intense, and even with a low dose powerful experiences are very possible for someone now to them... that's not to say the change isn't a good thing. I can find the study if you would like, but basically they gave some people mushrooms, monitored them through the trip and afterward... 14 months later 9/10 of them considered themselves happier with life and considered the trip to be the most meaningful experience of their lives or at least in the top 5... hell there has been studies where they gave terminally ill people lsd and it helped them accept death and allowed them to be happier with the time they had left...

does she have a history of mental illness in her family? those are usually the only people who have problems. but then again irrc Meta is like manic bi-polar, and he dropped like 75 hits back in the day and he seems pretty fine...

pick a nice sunny day to trip, not sure where your at but shrooms make me cold... my last shroom trip was about a year ago, and it was cold as fuck... needed a coat...

With a sunny day out in nature, her boyfriend as a sitter, and not too high a dose, it will be hard for it to not be a good experience for her imo. Maybe you should take a small amount as well

Yes it is possible. But it is highly unlikely.

I say you let her do what she wants. Let her trip on her own, leave her the fuck alone. If she wants to trip alone, your mere presence is going to ruin shit. In fact, you are quite the dick for trying to force her to trip a certain way.

I do not see your relationship lasting too long if you have to control everything, down to the way she trips.

If she ends up freaking out from it, she will get herself out, and come through it a much stronger person with a greater sense of self, as opposed to you trip sitting her asking her if she is ok every fifteen minutes.

If she wants to eat mushrooms alone then it means that she has some spiritual journeying to do, otherwise she would NOT have specified that she wants to do it alone.

It is NOT your place to decide whether she is ready for mushrooms, and it is NOT your place to decide how her experience will transpire, those decisions are HERS and HERS ALONE, and quite frankly, how dare you try to do so, you should be fucking ashamed of yourself for trying to force your will on another, especially regarding such a sacred and meaningful experience, and on someone you are supposed to love.

Back off. Let her do her thing. You showing that you do not have confidence in her is only going to ruin her trip and MAKE it bad, but respecting her decision and at least faking that confidence will give her confidence in herself, which may or may not play a vital role in her trip, depending on if things take a turn for the worst.

If you let her do her thing, and show that you believe in her, even if she does have a bad trip, she will come out of it much easier with that confidence, and end up changing her life for the better, as opposed to you undermining her sense of ability by just being present, and nothing useful will be gained from the trip.

Now, I say this assuming that she does not have a history of mental illness/depression etc, and I mean real depression, not the angsty teenage blues bullshit. If the bitch cuts herself and hears voices you shouldn't be thinking of giving her shrooms to begin with.

If she is capable of taking them with you there, then she sure as fuck is capable of taking them without you. You are not her knight in shining armor. Some things must be worked through on your own, and having someone else even sitting in the same room can impede progress, bring it to a screeching halt, or worse if the persons original desire was to be alone.

Nothing is worse than forced company on a trip. Fuck trip sitters. If you don't think you are ready to trip alone, you shouldn't be tripping to begin with.

oh, it happens bro.
I took acid with my friend Eddy and he went crazy for 2 months.
But if SHE thinks shes gonna be fine then maybe she will be.
there are alot of people who can't handle drugs though, i guess you'll wait and see what happens?

Salvia's much more likely to give her a bad experience than mushies, especially if she starts on a low dose. The vast majority of people I know who've tried mushrooms really enjoyed the experience, regardless of the circumstances. The vast majority of people I know who've tried salvia didn't.

Just let her do it. If you keep telling her it's a bad idea, that she needs a sitter, that shit can go wrong... well, you're just preparing her for a bad trip. Tell her about doses if she doesn't know, then let her do what she wants.

erm...how bout you say that trying to understand you through psychedelic drugs is not very mature. Let her know that if she wants to understand you more than you guys should go and look at the stars or something together, and just talk.

And drugs r bad...mmmkay?

I always wondered what it would be like if you gave crazy people psychedelics.

Like, what happens if you gave a vet with shell shock some LSD? I would thoroughly enjoy watching that.

i forgot where it was but i read somewhere that back in the day when they were doing psychiatric test with lsd they gave a shizo girl multiple high doses and it helped alleviate the schizophrenic symptoms drastically.....

http://www.hofmann.org/papers/sandison_1.htm

that seems to be one of the studies where they gave crazy people lsd, many showed great improvement...

There's no way for us to tell if she's psycho or not man.

However, if she really IS mentally unstable, then she shouldn't be doing ANY drugs. It's all her choice though.

It's pretty much impossible to gauge whether or not a single trip on mushrooms will affect someone for better or for worse. People who say they want to trip to better themselves can have emotional, spiritual, and intellectual issues that they want to resolve. By intellectual I mean exploring questions about consciousness and how the mind is implemented by the brain. I've introduced many people to psychedelics and I would say that the people who gain most from them are smart people who need confirmation of a realm outside of their normal reality and who are willing to put real effort in gaining knowledge not just about the substance, but everything else surrounding its use and are open to the implications of what they experience.

The people you don't want to be giving psychedelics to are the ones that have a very set pattern of thinking that they will try to fit everything they experience into this paradigm that they aren't willing to let go of. Psychedelics should be a humbling experience and a lot of people with schizophrenia for instance (especially combined with OCD) drive themselves crazy by these mental patterns that produce of vicious cycle of thinking. Some of them do benefit from taking psychedelics but the ones who don't are negatively affected because they must try to reinforce their usual way of thinking at any cost.

People who are genuinely interested and open to the experience will do their own research and the best outcomes for trips in my experience come from preparation without expectation.

you'd have to be downright stupid to recommend salvia to anyone who hasn't tried acid shrooms pcp dmt, ect. or any strong hallucinogen first. Unless were talking str8 leaf and not extracts.

considering salvinorin A is one of the most powerful hallucinogens in the world, I'm sure this would only turn her off drugs as most people who break through on salvia choose never to do it again, not to mention a break through on that crap would be more likely to drive one bananers than any low mushroom dose.

Just look at the amount of negative trip reports for salvia compared to other hallucinogenic drugs if you need proof.

I've seen a good handful of experienced psychonauts smoke extract, completely trip balls for 5 minutes, come down, and then exclaim "that shit makes acid look like ginger beer man"

To make a long rant short:
Salvia=Not for beginners
Meta=Dumb

Probably not, mushrooms are way different than salvia, they give you a goofy goofy high, mostly just make you want to laugh depending on the situation. Though they can go way deeper.
