Triggers that cause disorders to surface
So over the years i've been diagnosed with anxiety. depression and schizotypical personality disorder.
I think I can pin each disorder down to a specific events.
Anxiety: a few years ago a girl alleged that I raped her because we both got drunk and fucked and she had a boyfriend at the time. I never felt a constant anxiety with no cause before that event.
Depression: I fell in love with someone with moderately severe asburgers. They just couldn't understand it. My first suicide attempt came from that.
SPD: I smoked weed to the point of abuse when I was still very young (11-14), and stopped. Soon after I was diagnosed with the symptoms.
What do you think, headshrinkers? Can specific events trigger mental disorders to come out?

Re: Triggers that cause disorders to surface
I think yes since most disorders come out or surface during times of stress. However, the triggers can be continuous or the triggers are more than one event.
In my case, my OCD worsened or surfaced due to me being perfectionist and being anxious (thinking of problems) most of the time. At first I think I only did the compulsions just to please myself that those bad things will never happen and after some time they already became a habit.
My manic-depression might have come from my OCD or vice versa. Though I think it triggered due to my inability to have a long term relationship with a girl and most of the girl I like or loved didn't liked me at all (rejection). Or maybe due to the fact that I am moody and temperamental. I became suicidal during my depressive mood especially when something bad happens or sometimes I just feel really sad and hopeless.

Do be especially careful with weed - it is notorious for bringing all your demons to the surface. I think you know that anyway.

Lsd can potentially cause latent psychosis and repressed memories to manifest themselves. I assume that amphetamines and OCD aren't a good mix either. To all you whining about weed, smoke it when your calm and collected and there won't be a problem. Set and setting can be important for weed if you are susceptable to anxiety etc.

Wrong. Weed (heavy/continued use) can bring on latent problems or even you have a susceptibility like a history of mental illness in the family. It doesn't have shit to with your current mood when you smoke it.

I know what you mean about the memories. Tripping on cid made me feel like I was 15 years younger coincided with all the events and memories associated with my childhood. Acid is a good tool to truely find yourself, then again so is meditation.
