Default opiate blockers (suboxone)

Hey all.

Havent been on here a while as Ive been trying to deal with my own shit, but its good to see some worthwhile, intelligent topics on here ( at least a few) again.

As I perused some of the threads (I think it was one on methadone), somone mentioned that methadone only blocks opiates a a certain dosage. Ive been trying to quit heroinfor a while now. The withdrawals are worse than anyones that Ive talked to...I mean hallucinations, enormous fever...pretty fucking bad. Ive been pretty broke lately too, so ive been w/d often, which aint fun. I know people that are doing the methadone thig, but they seem to get high on it more than aything and a few people ive talkd to hjave been on it 12+ years. the system that monitors t is retty flawed.

I have some subxone from when I thought was gonna take it befoe. I pretty much ust keep it around as a safety measure for if I get too bad and I NEED to take somethig. Other than that, I fucking hate it. the only time I took it, I tried to wit thereccommeded amount of time (like 6 hours) because my friend that it as prescribed to said it basically blocked all the morphine from your brain and made you feel like shit if you didnt wait long enough. I didnt wait long enough.

The pills are orange octagons and white ovals. Theyre all 8mg I think. What would be the minimum dosage to provide relief for a 6'7", 290 lb male, without blocking what little opiates i might have to tak ein the meantime? Or is it at all possible?

And on this same train of thought, what successful methods have any of you used to break opiate addiction? ( and I dont mean fucking codeine)

Thanks.

CaspeR

E: And sorry about some of the spelling and stuff...my wireless keyboard has been on the same dying battery for a month and a half. Im broke. sue me.

if you wanna get off, the switch to bupe for a taper isn't a bad idea. you can taper with heroin, but its not as easy [especially if you get a hotshot]. you could try holding yourself over on a low dose of bupe [say 2mgs] but i doubt you'd feel anything in the immediate 24 hours following. you'll be using more just to break through....

are you spiking your dope? if so, then you got two birds to eliminate and an instant gratification complex to come to grips with. how long have you been saying fuck it all to all things sensible?

First of all, thanks man for responding...im tired of always having NO answers to my questions, or having my comment miraculously kill every thread.

Ummm...ive tried to avoid slamming as long as possible. 70% of the time I smoke it, but sometimes (a lot of times) I dont have enough to smoke. I started using just before I graduated high school...that was 2006. So its been about 2 years exactly.

When I started, a balloon lasted me 5 or six days, but then I wasnt doing it every day. Then when I started binging and I had a job, I could go through 4 or 5 .4 gram balloons a day. Right now Im at a couple balloons a day, trying badly to taper, but it aint workin so well.

I remember when I came to BLTC asking about it when it peaked my curiosity first. Man, does shit go downhill fast.

I'm a little unclear as to what you're asking homes. Do you want to get a plan to taper down on the suboxone or do you want to know how soon after taking the subs you can get back on the black horse?

well if you got a sizeable tolerance, when moving to bupe wait until withdrawl hits. best indication. i'd say go with 8mgs [a single pill] under the tounge to see [lasts longer this way, even if blowing it is more intense]. if your still hurting, bump up to 10mgs. stabalize on bupe, which would be the least amount it takes to get through the day. be conservative. stay at the stablized dose at least 3-5 days. taper a mg every other day. wait at least 2 days each 2mg drop [so four days go by [say you started at 12mgs], stay at 10mgs 3 days, then drop a mg, wait a day [ie another at 9] drop another. its a bit slower, but if times on your side it'll be fucking painless....

you gotta really wanna get off tho. no kididng yourself. don't lie. if you wanna get high you wanna get high. but try not keep having to restart [bupe is alright though, because if you start at say 16mgs you won't be able to afford to get high with the bupe]...

do not attempt to slam bupe. just don't, trust me here. it sounds like the needle isn't your crutch anyway. good.

Yeah I used a spike for a while, but decided it would makes things a LOT more difficult in the long run. And in response to the poster above vil, yeah im just trying to find an effective method to quit. Usually the first couple days are the hardest for me. I havent tried really hard with bupe before, but I remember it made me feel like crap, but helped a tiny bit when it mellowed out. So i was trying to determine if there was a dose that I could use to reduce the amount of heroin I had to use, while NOT blocking the heroin...because I get really freaked out taking some shit, having it make me feel like crap, and then not being able to do som e shit and be okay.

And I really REALLY do want to quit. Its something im grateful for right now....that I know deep in my heart that I have the will to quit. Its stopped any progress I was making in my life right in my tracks, and everything at the moment is at a complete standstill. It ruined my relationship with my gf, I lost scholarships, and I did a little calculation the other day and realized that, conservatively, in the last 2 years Ive been using, Ive spent a MINIMUM of $250,000. That really woke me up. That, and about a month ago, after kicking for 2 days, I made the painful to decision to pawn my moms wedding ring. It made me feel as low as ive ever felt my entire life, but I couldnt stand it anymore. It was either step in front of a bus, or find some kind of relief. I had every intention of buying it back, but nonetheless itmade me feel absolutely terrible. She found out soon after (before I could buy it back) and she didnt stop crying for 2 days.

So I went to my first NA meeting last night. It felt like a step. But when they did the "prayer for the addict who still suffers" I felt like a complete fake and a liar. I mean I was so nervous I had to shoot what little I had before I left. But...well see how it goes. I need to be done with this.

Thanks for the help. Ill post updates every once and a while.

I switched from 260mgs of methadone and 240mgs of hydromorphone/day to a starting dose of 24mgs suboxone. It is extremely hard to adjust to a partial agonist/antagonist like buprenorphine from long term use of full agonists!! I was in mild-moderate withdrawals for a little over 4 months, but I stuck it out and was able to do a very gradual taper with the Suboxone and have been opiate free for almost a year.I can e-mail you the recommended taper guidelines if you'd like. Hang in there- sounds like your ready to get your life back!

Haha. He has the number(s) memorized. That's how it is.

I only found out I even had the numbers memorized AFTER I deleted the numbers from my phone.

And casper, I feel for you man. I managed to cold turkey from a 4 OC80 habit, and it was rough. But I still relapse all the time!!!
>_<

I found that month long regimens of DLPA can help, at around 1g\day.

It'll make the dope better, too, so you won't have to use as much...

For me, the physical problems don't compare with the mental stuff...

It's like I'm obsessed with opiates...

Even nice moments that happen, I catch myself thinking, wow, imagine if I was on oxy?

Oxy has left me with some depression\anxiety problems. I mean, I've been clean for ~4 months before, and still had these problems (that didn't exist before hand)

DLPA helps a bit with that stuff too.

Anyway, it's gonna be hard, but tell someone IRL about it. I would still be on the oxy daily if it wasn't for my GF.

You need a goal to work towards.
