I just started playin, and i cant get the hang of it. 
The combination items confuzzel da shit out of me.

If it makes you feel any better, i bought Burnout paradise 2 weeks ago at block buster for 29.99 retail, then went to zellers and seen it for 59.99, and have yet to install/ play it.

Download an one of RGB's AI maps and play a bunch of games against some easy bots. This will get you familiar with different heroes and item builds.
Then start playing against people on bnet. Watch what other people are doing and saying and you will learn tactics.

Read item guides...
When I first started playing new characters, i'd keep [urlhttp://dotabuilds.com/[/url] open in the background, play AREM then when I got my hero..look him up real quick as what items are good on him.
Helps a lot, and it just takes practice to learn how to use certain skills when and where.
