Default Gnome vs KDE

on a two party preferred basis, what and why?

i am a gnome man myself, i feel it much more lighter and simple.

Kde likes to cram as much crap in one app as possible, leaving a confused shiny mess (and user). take konqueror for example.

also, as i use Xfce as my main wm (starting to migrate to LXDE) i find that GTK apps blend in better and are much more user-friendly anyway.

Who fucking likes KDE? Except Linus, he just has massive love of anything that was once unfree.

I use Gnome on some of my boxes; if I'm not using Gnome, I'm using Fluxbox or e17.

I used to like KDE back in the 3.4.* series.
KDE never had any proprietary/commercial code, qt once did a while ago.
I prefer Xfce 4.*, it's llightning fast and doesn't get in your way.

If many distributions come with it packed by default, then obviously a lot of people like it and prefer it. If it was as crap as you make it out to be, then it wouldn't be a competitor, now would it?...and to me it seems to be battling quite well

I personally haven't taken a look at it for years until a few days ago. I recently bought a linux magazine and a OpenSuse with KDE disc came with it. I only ran it in live mode last night for about 10 - 15 min, and thought KDE had came along way. It still looks hella smooth and beautiful as usual and I might even install it, to get a more better full on experience

I use KDE as I find gnome to be cluttered. Can't explain it, just seems to lack a focus point.

I agree with this, konqueror is an absolute disaster.

I prefer Gnome, because of the OP's stated reasons.
KDE is all-over, scattered, ADHD messiness.
But I would really like more stuff in ncurses.
I like TUIs.

If the xserver goes to hell, you can rely on a TUI.

I prefer Gnome, but I can happily live with KDE, too.

Apparently KDE has moved on since I last tried it though, so I'll have to give it another go some time; I'm using gnome now.

Out of the two, I prefer GNOME, but I prefer Openbox over the two choices.

I'm a KDE guy. I like having lots of options and features. Gnome just seems to simplistic to me. I like being able to change and customize everything. Also, Qt4 is a developer's dream.

I like KDE, only because GNOME feels a little unpolished as an every-day average-joe desktop, where its just easy an intuitive for anyone to come by and hop on and get going with minimal learning.

I DO hate KDE's major bloatation.

They desperately need a KDE-lite
