Default Steam games not finding any servers

I wasn't sure whether to post this in GPP or here, but this is more of a tech support issue so I figured this was better.

Anyway, I recently got high speed internet, and a new router. So I go to play Steam, and servers show up in Steam, but not when I launch a Steam game. I can't figure this out. I have DMZ set on my comp so I know the port isn't being blocked. PeerGuardian and my firewall are turned off when I look for servers. WTF... I don't get it. I even tried reinstalling Steam and resetting my router. The only time I got it to work at all was right after I reset my router. I was right in the middle of joining a game and the then it disconnected and couldn't find any servers again. The weird thing is that Steam can find servers when it's just in the client, but not when it launches a game. None of my other games do this, nothing else has a blocked connection.

Help me out here Totse... I want to play Garry's Mod online!!!

have you tried deleting your "clientregistry.blob" file and then opening steam let it update and from there it should be fine.

this is a common issue with steam as its shite , most of the errors occur because this file is very unstable.

No I don't think I have tried that. I will try when I get a chance. I have tried deleting the masterservers.vdf file and serverbrowser.vdf and that didn't work. This has been driving me crazy for the past two weeks, so I hope it works!

I fucking hate Steam... I bought Orange Box when I still had dial up and I couldn't even install the fucking game without going to my friend's house to use his high speed. Now that I had high speed I figured it would be a little better to use...

Well it is a bit of a bastard , the .blob file that holds the client registry fixes most of the problems.

it does need high speed connection to run most of the steam applications .

and yes steam is shite but once u get used to it , its a good thing

Fuck. Still didn't work. I click on multiplayer in any Steam game and it hangs at refreshing server list and then when it's done there are no servers. I have no idea what's wrong.

Ok now it seems the issue has extended to all my online games. I can't connect to any Halo servers for some reason. I'm going to reset my router to factory defaults.

EDIT: That still didn't work. I seriously need some help here I don't know what else to do.

Do you use Peer Guardian? I use it and I found I had to disable it anytime I used Steam.

if u have done waht i said its definetly not a steam error and now that it has spread to other online Games like halo ( if only it would spread to the whole of the halo world ) then all thts left is to check that your router is allowing you to connect , can you access the internet / flash games , all u need to do is diagnose the problem by eliminating different possiblities

please respond back and i will help

Yes I use PeerGuardian, however I disabled that and closed my firewall when I ran Steam (and now Halo too...).

I don't know what this could be. Some strange network issue is keeping me from playing online games. So far I've only tried Steam games and Halo, if others don't work then I see if I can track down this issue. When I can I'll keep this thread updated and hopefully we can solve this problem!
