Holding merchandise above the alarm poles.
This probably hasnt been tried often, but if you held something above your head and walked through the gates on the exits would the alarm still go off...given the item has the little alarm bar in it

Hmmm, might be worth a shot. However it'd be wise to look into it first; the signal may go over the sensor height to prevent such things.

Most security tags are RFID tags. These radio waves will inevitably hit the sensors.

I bought a dvd from another store and went into a clothing store. on the way out of the clothing store, I held the dvd over my head and the alarm went off

Most have a 3 foot radius above sensors.
