I've been a heavy smoker for about a year now, and recently i've picked up pipe smoking.

Now, this morning, I didn't have a lighter so I lit my pipe with a stovetop.

BANG, a headrush of proportions I havn't felt since my first cigarette.

I felt the elusive "just-as-good" high that most addicts yearn for...

What happened? Was it because I slept around 11 hours? Was it because the stovetop burnt more tobacco? Was it from trichomes left over in my pipe?

Trichromes dont give you a head rush, and take a bit longer to feel then nicotine.

Depends on the strain and how it was grown and when it was harvested and how it was prepared, cured, etc. Milky trichomes are likely to be more of a head rush. Even more when a decent amount are clear or partially milky. I'm not sure what the red ones do. I haven't ever bought any weed with a lot of red ones.

But I don't think it had anything to do with left over trichomes. Unless he had a really good sativa dominant hybrid or a pure sativa in that pipe. Or some early harvested indica. But the type of high you get from left over will change fairly quickly as it ages.

Those picked early (white) have a greater THC:CBD ratio.
The lower ratios of THC:CBD give you the "couch" stoning effect, as CBD acts as a anti-psychotic.
The time it takes the Cannabis(essence) to cross the Blood to Brain Barrier is not effected, and still takes a significant time, before the user can feel any kind of rush.

Nicotine on the other hand, works relatively; very fast.

Before i quit smoking ~6month ago, i can tell you that the only time i would experience the Head rush was:

1) several years ago when i first began to experiment with cigarettes
2) And later; only after a morning cigarette, waliking on my way to school.

i put on the lowest flame possible, put my pipe on a 90 degree angle next to the hotplate and draw to light it as normal (it's a gas stove).

The tobacco doesn't fall out of a pipe that's been packed.

What JaMiE P said, or on a element stove you can just load a bowl, pack it really tight and hold close to/on the element (weed facing down) until it lights..you usually don't have to make contact.

You probably had to hit your pipe pretty hard to get smoke from it. You were probably just light headed from a lack/sudden change of O2 dropping your BP.

You didn't correct anything I said, so there wasn't a need for the "No,". There was also no need for a hyphen. I never said the color didn't have to do with when it's harvested. Milky trichomes will give more of a head rush, especially in combination with a good amount of clear or partial trichomes. It also depends on how it was grown and cured, how fresh it is, what strain it is, etc. You can definitely get a fast head rush from certain bud. Average bud won't give you any rush at all.

I was never able to get any kind of head rush from tobacco. That's a genetic thing too, I read an article on it. But everyone can get a fast head rush from the right weed. Tobacco is garbage to me. Makes my lungs feel all shitty and constricted. Tastes terrible too.

Certain strains will make you feel like you've become super man almost instantly. I have no idea which terpenes that would be though.

And it's more noticable sometimes, depending on the particular terpenes and how fresh the bud is and when I say that, I don't really mean when it's harvested, although that plays a role too. When the calyxs are not damaged much and the bud isn't that dry, opening up those calyxs and smelling them can be very interesting.

Most bud sold loses much of those original terpenes because it gets smashed and molested and many are very volatile..

The environment, growing conditions, etc, can play a large role in which terpenes and in what amount.

its in disputeable fact, even us nicotine fiends can get a dose of enough to remind us why we started in the first place. and yes, the 11 hour slumber helped in your part..

Also, one strain may seem like a completely different strain after you smoke it when it's fresh and unmolested and previously only had it when it was aged. A higher calyx to leaf ratio is also not always best, but I can't really explain this.

As far as terpenes go, they are even more elusive regarding gathering information on types and how they effect your high(Very interesting stuff nevertheless)... It hardly seems like something that, with its volatile nature and all, be for the first time acknowledged on the OP's Pipe. .
But as far as CB1 and CB2 binding, the chemical(s) take significantly longer to pass the BBB and achieve saturation then Nicotine.

When smoked, comparing a cigarette of each administered via smoking it.

Marijuana's head rush(intensity) takes a good 2-5+ minutes to set in, and then depending on concentration/chemicals/binding/effects/saturation
The intensity grows for the next ~30 minutes.
Perhaps the brain tells you something right there.
While the nicotine rush is almost instant, and brief...

How can you have never experienced the Nicotine rush, if you smoke?

Even though we've had differing opinions in the school drug thread, I do think Aerogone has a point for the mere reason that the cigarette rush we get is mainly a hypoxia rush. And hypoxia cannot be determined by ones genetics. If you inhale smoke, you block oxygen, thats it.

I vaguely remember getting a headache from tobacco. I don't know how that can be considered a rush though. I was so disappointed because it wasn't addictive at all for me. I assumed the rush would have something to do with addiction. But if it's just like a headache that rarely happens, then I don't know why anyone would even mention it, or seek it.
