Default Build Vs. Buy

I'm sick and tired of my $400 computer that runs all my games like a coked out cigarette smoking booze hound in the 500m dash. I'm looking to buy either a Dell, Alienware, or Newegg.com Built computer.

I've heard that Alienware is nice to have it just done and made for gaming for you, that Dell can clone the same thing but doesn't run as nice, and that building your own is the cheapest way but you have to worry about lack of warranties, lack of OS, and having to get all the parts without knowing about compatibility.

I've never built a comp, but I have friends who know how, so any avenue is a likelihood. However, I need some advice as to which is the best. My cap is about 2k and I'm lookin to spend every penny of it.

Typically when you buy an alienware you're paying for them to build it and for a service contract (if you choose to get one). I haven't checked out their prices lately, but they're usually a bit overpriced. I prefer to just build mine - you can usually buy better parts and save a bit of money - especially if you know what you want.

you get a 1 year warantee on every part in your PC. asuming you dont buy refurbished goods.

so unless you are specifically looking to get a 3 year warantee then there is no advantage warantee wise through buying a pre built machine

A guy I work with was in the same situation, and he ended up having me build him a computer. He basically got the specs of a Dell he was looking at, and asked me if I could build something comparable for less money. Turns out I was able to build him something better, for a lot less money. So yeah, I would highly recommend building a system yourself; it can save you a lot of money, if you're not completely clueless.

Heck, I can build a system that will run Crysis fairly well for around $700. The same thing from Dell/alienwaste would probably cost twice as much.

I say go with a build, much better performance for the price. If you are not very intelligent on computer components then I might say the opposite. Anyways, good luck and happy building.

If you don't know shit about building computers, and you have the money, then alienware would be my choice.

If you're a $400 computer user, I doubt you're ready for alienware prices.

If you want to build it yourself, look at alienware's parts and price them out at newegg/tigerdirect etc.
You can save quite a bit if you build it yourself.

I recently built my own computer. I purchased almost everything from TigerDirect (aside from the OS), and it cost me around $800 before rebates and such. That's cheaper than what Dell and them wanted for a similar computer, and their $800 didn't even include a monitor! I'd definitely go with the build.

Dell owns aleinware so the XPS series and the Alien series are the same PC's but different cases. If i where in your position i would do a little research, start googling questions you might. Google what it takes to put a PC together (easy as fuck) and look at youtube vids. If your up to it then you should tell us what you want in the system and the price your willing to pay and we'll start giving you suggestions as to what to order. Putting a PC together is easier then most people think. I just built my friend a PC for about 2000$. It contains a 4870 x2 video card, 1000W PSU, Quad-Core and 4GB's of DDR3 Ram (Motherboard required). For a PC with the same specs as the one i built on Alienware.com it's roughly 2,700$ (A little less as a good as they don't have some of the same components on newegg. So basically your going to be paying about 25% more for a really good warranty and a nice case. Either way it's up to you whether you want to go the easy way or the cheaper and more difficult way, i suggest the ladder.

There is one thing i will stress, DO NOT buy from any of the Cyberpower companies, it's not worth your time to even deal with them.

2k could get you a fucking sick build. We're talking 2-3 dual processor GPUs in SLI, a quad core, 4 gigs ram, TB hard drive, etc.
