| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Bioware games?
How are they that great? (Opinion of course.)
To me it seems that they're all based off the same thing, or at least the beginning.
Does it seem to you guys that all Bioware games are based around the same thing in the beginning of a game?
Totally unrelated tutorial in which you get something that gives you visions and superpowers-go to a bar to talk to someone who gives you false information-save someone from thugs who later becomes your ally-kill a mob boss and escape the planet.

Re: Bioware games?
I enjoyed KOTOR quite a bit and Mass Effect wasn't too shabby either.
What you described is pretty fucking close to Mass Effect's beginning. Same goes for KOTOR in a nutshell. I guess they've found what works and stuck with it.
Never really played Neverwinter Nights so I can't speak for that game.

Truth. The majority of them had underlying D&D rules to operate the fighting systems. That's not necessarily a bad thing though...I thought KOTOR 1 (and I guess II..) were excellent. Once they moved in a more action oriented direction with Jade Empire I lost interest.

Agreed.
I used to play a lot of RPGs thinking they were all the same before I had ever played tabletop even once.
The one time my uncle breaks out his old DnD set and I was like, "...Hey haha....this is a lot like those dumbass RPGs."
Most RPGs are based off DnD, it's just to what extent they are. But I've never even heard of Neverwinter Nights. I'm gonna go check it out....
Why does a Kobold sound so familiar? And Neverwinter Nights looks pretty kickass.

Kobold?
I've never played Neverwinter but I hear that it's pretty badass. Some people have likened it to a more RPG oriented Diablo but I'm not sure how accurate that is. Let me know what you think of it.

Of the screenshots I saw it looks like a graphically enhanced Diablo.
Of the gameplay I heard of it's like Diablo.
But then again, they also linked the creature stage of Spore to Diablo.

Re: Bioware games?
NWN is not like Diablo. It's just a 3d version of Baldur's Gate.
Kobolds are little monsters that originally came from DnD. They've spread to other games though, including MTG.

Well I dug Baldur's Gate so I'm pretty sure I'll get Neverwinters.
I never did get into the tabletop version of D&D. Thank god for video games.
