Perrier/Quinine/Poppy Pods
Does quinine potentiate poppy pods as it does other opiates? The reason I ask is because I don't know if it messes up the metabolization or anything. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Perrier/Quinine/Poppy Pods
No!
Quinine does nothing to potentate any opiates as far as i know.
The reason it was introduced to the heroin supply in the 80's, was to prevent malaria outbreaks among the needle sharing, filthy, heroin shooting hobos of the time.
Also, the amounts of Quinine found in regular tonic are minuscule and insignificant as far as i know. Much larger doses are required for any anti-malaria effects.

I don't think it is. I could be wrong, but I've heard to drink tonic water to potentiate opiates(which I guess isn't true) because it has quinine in it. It says on the bottle for some of them "Contains Quinine".
But supposedly it does the same thing that Tagamet does in your liver, and it isn't good to take that before pods because some of the pod high is because of codeine.

Re: Perrier/Quinine/Poppy Pods
Quinine is an ingredient in tonic water, and functions the same way as Tagamet. It inhibits the CYP450 set, more specifically, CYP2D6. It doesn't 'clog' as many enzymes as Tagamet does, but it STRONGLY 'clogs' CYP2D6, which is the MAIN enzyme for opiates like oxycodone, heroin, hydromorphone, etc. A large glass of straight tonic water is plenty. I prefer the "Vintage" brand. You can buy a liter of tonic water at any grocery for like $2.00.
The main alkaloid in pods is morphine, which quinine does potentiate, so drinking tonic water will potentiate pod tea. It does contain codeine as well, but it's better to potentiate morphine than codeine.

"Quinine and quinidine accentuate the buzz of opiates but only directly help with codeine metabolism by boosting the amount changed into morphine."

^^Is that true?
Peace.

Re: Perrier/Quinine/Poppy Pods
Another reason Heroin is cut with Quinine is because it has a bitter taste, so when given the taste test the buyer will think the quality is better than if they tasted a bit on their finger and tasted milk sugar or anything else sweet.
