Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
I tried a regular one and it tastes weaker than the lightest marlboro, but according to the package it has 25% more tobacco per regular size cigarette. You certainly don't taste it. Is all this crap about not having additives and all the chemicals standards cigarettes are supposed to have true? It won't influence my decision to keep smoking them, I'm just curious.
The box says it isn't safer, but obviously they were forced to put that up.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
From their site:
What’s in our natural tobacco products:
High quality, premium tobacco
Whole leaf, natural tobacco
Up to 25% more tobacco per cigarette
Tobacco hand picked by our leaf experts
What we would never use in our cigarettes:
Tobacco Additives
Tobacco Preservatives
Tobacco Flavorings
Reconstituted sheet tobacco
Scrap tobacco
Processed stems
Expanded tobacco
reconstituted sheet tobacco
This paper-like filler is made with inferior-quality tobacco that is a mix of scrap parts of the tobacco plant. By scraps we mean stems, tobacco dust, rejected leaves, and shreds from rejected cigarettes which have been chopped up and rolled out into sheets.
processed stems
These fillers are steamed and pressed tobacco leaf stems that are cut and added to tobacco blends in order to fill out the cigarettes and cut costs.
expanded tobacco
This tobacco is expanded using chemicals, such as, liquid carbon dioxide. This process increases the volume of the tobacco, so less tobacco is necessary to fill the cigarettes.
I don't think they'd legally be allowed to say all that if it wasn't true. So, with all that said, they're kind of better for you in the regards that they don't have all the nasty shit most cigs have in them. Just tobacky. I think they taste great, and they burn a lot slower than most cigs too.

It's not just the tobacco...
Additives found in most cigarettes:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_additives_in_cigarettes
As advertised, AS doesn't have any of those.
I'd say the difference between smoking those additives and not is quite a difference. I'm not saying cigarettes are good for you, but c'mon..

Thisun. It isn't the tobacco that is unhealthy..it's all the garbage that's added to it.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
The organic reds I smoke are a lot stronger than marbs. As a starting smoker I could chain smoke my marlboro reds with no problem, but once I finished an organic american spirit cig I almost puked.
Honestly I don't think it's any safer for you, but you don't need to smoke as many to get your fix, at least in my case. Not only is it a better quality cigarette but they also do charity, are eco-friendly, treat workers with respect and pay them well, clean up highways etc. They ARE owned by RJ Reynolds now, but that's a good thing. They remain autonomous and still make quality products, and their products get on the shelves quicker, and to more locations.
Do you roll your own or buy the hard/soft packs?

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
Even though they contain more nicotine in them AS don't give me cravings like other brands do. I also notice that i dont have "crud" in my throat as much with AS, and rarley need to clear my throat. For your lungs American Spirits just give me a "dry" feeling when being active, as apposed to the coughing I get when inhale deeply when i have been smoking camels. I am convinced that they are better for your health, but I still belive they can cause cancer.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
To be honest I do vary which AS packs I smoke, but I really like the maroon pack, not just for the organic bit, but for taste as well. Are you a fan of menthol? If so, AS makes GREAT menthol cigs. They don't fuck with the tobacco, and just put the menthol in the filter which you can crush and roll around to your liking.
My favorites:
http://www.tryamericanspirit.com/PackMaroon/tabid/178/Default.aspx
http://www.tryamericanspirit.com/PackBlue/tabid/169/Default.aspx
http://www.tryamericanspirit.com/PackGreen/tabid/180/Default.aspx
They are a bit more expensive, but you know you're getting quality and giving your money to a company worth giving money to.

Off topic from this particular brand, but anyone who smokes should try Lucky Strikes unfiltered at least once in their life.

Natural American Spirit Perique Blend Pre-Rolled or Roll your own.
If they didn't have these, I'd quit smoking cigs.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
Looks like everyone feels the same way I feel. These cigs do own hard, and I've had luckies, marlboro 27s reds and smooths, newports, camel turkish royals and menthol wides, and parliament lights. Looks like I'll stick with these for a while. I wanted to get menthol but nobody had them in stock.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
I think alot of people DO NOT understand additives.....
Most of the nasty shit in cigs is already there before they do shit. It's gotta do with BURNING.
Therefore, if I'm still gonna get cancer, I'd rather smoke a tasty Camel or Marlboro than an ass-tasting, hard to hit, overpriced AS.
My 2 cents don't get butthurt.
i smoke camel menthol lights, camel crush, marlboro 27 and newport medium regularly.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
The additives to tobacco are a serious business?
Not to mention the free-base nicotine achieved via ammonia which has: stronger, shorter acting effect on the person. (requiring significantly more frequent smoking).
Not to mention the 400+ something other additives, added to modern brands. A stingy company wouldn't exactly waste money on adding 400 select chemicals to the tobacco "just because".
In addition, the organic variety has its own presumed benefits, over the commercially fertilized GM "big bucks" strain of tobacco.
I remember that MGB used to offer the tree tobacco logs(really strong stuff).
I used to make my own pipe blend with: mullein, damina, a little bit of the tree-tobacco, a sprinkle of self powdered Agarwood(expensive shit), a bit of powdered marijuana stems, and a single powdered cumin seed per gram of mix.
I have explored the art of making very fine and palatable smoking blends, that blows the nasty crap that websites like IamShaman make, out of the water.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
it tastes like cardboard, try to find the difference between a regular NAS and marlboro medium...
sure they took the additives and other shit out, but that doesn't mean it tastes better than a regular cigarette...

Cigarettes smell like shit. They are like straight legged tight wranglers for guys, they just don't look right together. And for females smoking them? Makes em look trashy and then instead of smelling the beautiful scent most of them have, you smell something rank and stale.
If it just wasn't for the smell of them, I could give a fuck

Actually quite mild on the throat(due to chemicals no doubt), in my opinion. But you get one hell of a buzz from those sticks. Im sure they sell unfiltered variates of alot of brands, including i know, camels.

I used to smoke unfiltered luckies, but they were a bit harsh. I eventually stopped because I couldn't find any filtered ones. I did love that nutty flavor though!

You can't smoke those bad boys like a regular cig. Gotta take it a little easier on them :)
And yeah, they will kick your ass and give you one helluva head buzz. Best tasting cig in my opinion. Toasted tobacco for the win.

Is it any safer? Of course. No additives = safer.
Is smoking american spirit cigarettes beneficial from the risk versus reward standpoint? Probably not. What does nicotine do that helps? Idk.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
Can tell you from experience that
a. what american spirit says others do to their sigs is true
b. not usin additives makes they can't use burley tabacco cause it's too harsh.. not a bad thing at all since it's the worst shit there is
c. 400 additives is a bit..over the top.. but some of the things that go standard into the sauce of any sigs... damn (though, if you eat it it's probs not that bad)
Course sadly, probably american spirit uses celluose filters with plasticiser on it too... (a guy i know worked in a lab of a tabacco company and when he wanted to out of curiousity was STRICTLY forbidden to research how harmfull particles from the filter we're)

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
to some extent, it might be less harmfull than other ciggs. if your smoking tobacco, it is going to be bad for you no matter what. the chemicals added are their to change the way it burns, tastes, and to give a VERY slightly different buzz all in an attempt to get the user hooked on one particular brand. if ur going to smoke, go with the ciggs u like most based on strength of buzz, taste, etc. if your worried about the chemicals in ciggs and are concerned about your health, dont smoke them at all.

Re: Personally, do you think american spirit tobacco is any safer?
top / bugler roll your own pouches FTW!! if you go cheap like me
i like the camel unfiltered and lucky strikes unfiltered
like kite's menthol tobacco, zig-zag's menthol is pretty whack
although my all time fav is newport kings, soft pack, because they're bigger than the box. fatter and longer.
talking about a safer tobacco to smoke is like saying what kind of gun will hurt the least when you shoot yourself. they're all going to do the same thing, so fuck it, might as well have fun.

Not if its between; a high powered .22 with a clean exit, and a hollow point .45 to the dome.
What you are doing is rationalizing your addiction.

pfft rationalizing it my ass, i know its going to kill me so i dont car regardless. i think you tried to overanalyze my metaphor. if i was rationalizing it i would be thinking a different brand would be safer for me.
all cigarettes are unhealthy, its all about going to what one likes the best... or quit if one is worried about health.
