power tower
are they any good?
im thinking of getting a used one for about $150.
http://www.hyper-extension.com/database/pdf/50041.pdf
looks like that, actually its that exact same model.
now nearly half of those excersises are useleess.
(i can just do pushups on the floor, i wont be doing lunges, and the 'bridge', etc.)
i'll probably just using it for dips, knee raises (for the abs killer), and chinups,
maybe the situps, and the lat pull up.
should i get it? is it worth it?
ive got a bench press set with only 30kg of weights.
how much should i warm up/stretch before using this machine?
i was thinking because its only body weight, that it did not really matter?
and what other exercises can you guys think of?
can i use it outdoors, on the verandah ?
which is a roofed patio/gallery

Re: power tower
Take the time to think about how much you'll be using something like that in the future before dishing out the money. It might not seem like a lot but I've made many stupid purchases in the past, only to have them sit around and collect dust. But that's me. You might be different.
Also, it might seem really enticing right now. Think about if there are alternatives you can use. You said the only exercises you'll be doing is pullups and dips and knee raises. Is there anything around the house sturdy that you can hang on to? Is there a tree with a high and sturdy branch over which you can toss a rope over and climb? Or even a low branch over which you can throw a towel over and do towel pullups? Do you have sturdy chairs or a corner of a fence where you can do dips?
Would these possibly work out better for you? http://ringtraining.com/shop/equipment/elite-rings.html
They're cheaper and they're harder to do. They'll even make pushups harder. An even cheaper option would be to loop rope around at the end and slide down a pvc pipe for holding.

You shouldn't need a warm up before doing BW exercises if you're sorta fit.

Re: power tower
thanks for your reply.
yes,
i've looked into alot of other options.
i looked into building my own chinup/bar, made of PVC pipe.
but my dad said that it was too much of a hassle to pour concrete.
ie. i tried to put a pole through the wooden supports on the verandah.
i was afraid it might gather dust.
i've had other exercise machines (mainly those 'as seen on tv' ones), that have been doing nothing but gather dust.
there's a local police community youth center (kind of like the YMCA).
where they have a 'boxing' section.
however all of their weights are all old,
and the only equipment i use besides their boxing bags is the knee raise/chinup machine.
perhaps i should just get this machine?

Re: power tower
IMO, the rings I posted the link to would be A LOT better investment, IF you have a place to hang them.
Look through here, might find some ideas: http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenand...unt/grunt.html

Re: power tower
PVC tubing like here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LpzFmOTtnic
Or you can steal the monkey rings from your local playschool. But i wouldn't recommend that unless you're willing to give something back.

PVC tubing? Definately. I don't know about the rings though. You might be able to find something here (if you look hard enough): http://www.mcmaster.com/ It's a big supplier.
