Default IS this pathetic?

Hey i am 15 years old, i have recently quit playing footy.
I have recently taken up weight lifting. I lift every third day giving myself 2 days break between workouts.

The question is:
I am 15 years old.
I weigh 50kg.
And i can only bench press 20kg.

I'm not sure what the standard is for kids my age/weight, but to me this seems pretty pathetic.
is it?

You just look at what everyone else can lift and consider yourself pathetic compared to that. Don't feel too bad - everyone has to start from somewhere.

I also sense you need to do research on how to do sets and reps to efficiently help you get stronger and bigger. I also suggest researching a diet that will efficiently help you grow bigger muscles according to your situation. Google is great for this.

Is footy football or soccer?

But you really don't need that much rest. I do 6 days lifting a week, giving myself Fridays off. Get a routine, that will help alot. And stick with it. The soreness that you're probably trying to avoid will go away after 2-3 weeks of constant lifting. You just have to deal with it and battle through it.

And Starting Strength would be a great starting off point, but you probably not going to want to teach yourself cleans. But you can definately implament it into your workout effectively. The squat section alone is worth reading the whole book.

And eat. Eat alot. Like 4-5 meals a day plus snacks. But good food, not junk.

EDIT: no, it isn't pathetic. Everyone starts somewhere. Noob gains alone will add a ton of weight to your bench. No one in the gym cares about what your lifting.

i agree with everyone else's comments on this thread, 15 is too many sets.

do about 8 sets and pyramid the weight i.e. 2 or 3 lighter warm up sets, getting progressively heavier, but dont go all out on them, then a set with your max weight and give it everything i.e. go to failure. then 2 or 3 lighter sets going for a good pump.

try dumbell bench presses, then go back to bench, this can sometimes get you through a sticking point.

dont worry what weight you're lifting, strength will come if you are consistent, just keep training hard and eating. do not go on steroids at your age please.

btw i started lifting when i was 17, i could bench 30kgs (including the bar!).
now my max free weight bench press is 180kgs for 2 reps.
