Confronting a liar.
How do you tell people that you know they're a liar?
I have a gf who has a number of good qualities, but has a habit of exaggerating stories or making small ones up to be more interesting. I notice this especially when she talks to other people, and she'll even do it in front of me (like when using msn messenger when i'm sitting at the pc with her, and she'll blatantly tell them a slightly different version of events than what she's been telling me)
It's really hard to trust her as a girlfriend because i see how easily she can lie about things in her everyday life.
Example: we'd broken up for a couple of weeks, and when we got back together she told me about how she was at a party when she was singled out by a guy, who 'grabbed' her. She told me she made it clear it wasn't okay to the guy, and it stopped at that. I had trouble (and still do) believing her version of events.
I wish i could tell her that i know she does this, and that i want her to stop.

Re: Confronting a liar.
Be honest, and let her know that you wont stand for it- women love a man that will challenge them; and even if things do not work out for you two, youll end the relationship with your self-respect, probably with her respect as well.

Most people hate being called out on things like that though
So even though most of the things i see are just white lies, it's worth bringing up because of how it affects my trust in her?

Re: Confronting a liar.
haha the white lies arenèt worth bringing up, Id say.
Only confront her if things start seeming like shes screwing around behind your back, or if she doesnt seem to respect you, etc.

Re: Confronting a liar.
But it's the white lies i see that create the doubts.
We don't see each other more than 1-2 times a week usually, so all i know of what she does in the rest of that time is what she tells me.
I often go out with my friends and stay out all night, and she sometimes goes to people's parties and stays over. It's kinda hard to feel comfortable about her staying out when i don't know if she's telling the truth. She seems to get herself into situations where she gets too close to a guy in particular, so it's not too much of a stretch to think there might be something suspect there.

Re: Confronting a liar.
Yea, That'd definately make me suspicious- but if it were me, I'd probably have found out for sure right away. You may want to keep scoping it out for a little while and really try to find out how fucked up she gets at these parties, and ask other ppl who were there (in a way that doesn't seem too intrusive) if she was doin' anything with any guys, or girls, or w.e she was doin that evenin'.

Re: Confronting a liar.
Thing is, our groups of friends are fairly seperate. I'd have to be asking one of her friends to find that sort of info out, and beyond saying hi and being there on the odd occasion i go somewhere with her, i'm not good enough friends with them.
I don't wanna seem like the paranoid insecure guy here, but i guess if i want to bring it up i'm gonna be painted that way

Re: Confronting a liar.
Just every time she lies say "you're lying".
What you gotta understand, is to her, lying is a normal thing.
You need to give her and electric shock every time she lies.

Re: Confronting a liar.
Well i brought it up tonight, was going to try to tell her but she found the thread really quickly.
She agreed that she did it, and that it was a problem of sorts. Took it well really.
I think from now on whenever i have a problem i'll just write it up as a thread or email and just point the person towards it :P
